I know this maybe shouldn't be posted in Main, but I think it is a "general topic". Think about it, there is an Album in existence with the words "Van Halen" on the cover that people say is shit...this should br regarded as a highly strange fact...

But...

I've been listening to VH3 alot today...I really think this album is totally underated. You have to take it as almost like it's not Van Halen...and then your mind open's up to it, and accepts it...

Also...don't shoot me...but I think the guitar solo in Josephina is in Eddie's top 5 of all time...

I think all of us got caught up in the anti-VH3 crusade when this album came out and didn't give it a chance...

I think as VH fans we should try and appreciate it...because if we don't we are simply disregarding an important musical chapter in Edward Van Halen's life.

Sorry, dude, there is MUCH MORE to good music than good solos. That is where the DLR/SH arguments arises from (but we won't go there). Sorry, VH3 was a dog turd. I wish it were a good record but it wasn't.

Maybe you guys are right...it's just that for whatever reason this album sounds awesome to me today for the first time...every other time I've listened to it I've had to turn it off.

I've listened about 6 times in a row today...(I work my own business from home so I can crank the stereo all day)...and it is "changing" in some weird way.

The other album that did this to me recently was the new Rush LP Vapour Trails...I listened to that 20 times...and thought it was shit...but then it turned a corenr in my brain...and now I hear what the complexities of the music are doing...

isn't music the strangest artform...Movies can be judged the first time, but not music...

I can dig the music aspect of the album, for the most part, but the vibe of the album is just weak. Van Halen albums have always been a kind of a feeling like, "I'll fight you right now mother fucker!" And III didn't hit me as that. It was more of a, "Cool man, beats listening to most of the crap out and about."

Both versions of Van Halen have always been about attitude and fun, but the last version was about tennis and crochet. I'm sure both are very cool, but in Rock N Roll. Out.

I liked it. I thought it was very unique and diverse for Van Halen. But I think the majority of VH fans like the feel good party music better. This is no knock on anyone. But van halen to many people have always been very feel good, adventerous and youth like. I think eventually you have to grow up, and I think VH3 was just more o a mautre record. Not that there is anything wrong with writing about high times and feel good stuff. But to me the mature subject matter in the lyrics was really unique

i didn't think it was such a giant change for van halen - without you followed humans being, mwm and cant get this stuff, neworld is eddie, nuff said, from afar and dirty water dog were old bits of vh music. maybe it was more 'mature' but take amsterdam and cant stop loving you off of balance, and what do you have? a semi-heavy album. it didn't shock me, tho i thought gary would have sounded smoother. he did fine in concert. was it any worse than diver down or half of fuck? i don't think so. shame we won't hear the follow up until the release the VH box set another ten years from now.

As what, a mediocre album with poor production and overly-ambitious songwriting? A one off by memebers of two defunct rock bands that fails to live up to either bands' previous standards?

Ok VH3 has had two spins on the CD spinner - and I concur with the majority of posts here.
Some of the songs are ok - I don't mind at all what some people are calling the 'more serious VH' but that voice just grates on me after a while.

It is VH - sort of. Still my least favourite however.

Which of course still makes VH3 much better than most other shite music being made by most 'bands' these days.

III is my least favorite VH album. Although recently I've started to like some songs that I used to not care for--Josephina, and Year To The Day, which is probably my favorite on the album.

Yes, I like the album but it doesn't compare to any of the VH albums that came before it.

I look at it as Edward's expressionist experiments kinda like his Piccaso period where he paints with an abstract perspective on the musical pallet.

Nothing against Gary but I had a friend run III through one of those strip the vocals programs... as an instrumental work it's pretty cool...
