hey Bubba, someone who actually knows the lyrics to "i am a wild party" I'm impressed dude. Seriously, most mis-heard lyric in Canadian music history. Anyway, I didn't mind the lyrics at all. I love mine all mine. It's just seems like an uplifting song but read the lyrics and it's very angry. Don't worry man, they'll never be collective soul or creed,

Why would those lyrics piss you off? I like the lyrics to Mine All Mine, but I just apply them to how I'm feeling without thinking too much about the religious connotations of the words. We had a really long, intelligent discussion on the lyrics to Don't Tell Me a few months ago in the 101 Forum if you want to search for it and see what people thought at that point.

    One of them atleast...

BigBubba, I don't get what your sayin.

"they almost sounded like a damn christian band!"

    How does,

"Is it right to take the easy way.
Close your eyes, get on your knees and pray.
Now your saved by a higher voice.
Giving up, giving up, giving up your choice."

....... How does that sound like Christian band. Think about it? I'll show my reasoning.....

"Is it right to take the easy way.
Close your eyes, get on your knees and pray.
Now your saved by a higher voice.
Giving up, giving up, giving up your choice."

......Because of what Sam says in the first to lines, it leads me to believe he's sayin "Being saved is the easy way out."

    Now the next part....

"If I'm wrong, than I'll pay for it.
If I'm right, yeah, your gonna hear about it."

...... To me, using what I know from the part before, Sam's saying.....

"If God is real and you have to be saved, than I'm in trouble cause I didn't become saved. But if I'm right and God is fake, than I'm gonna brag and you'll know I was right."

......... That doesn't sound very Christian like to me. In fact if my mom heard it, she'd say "He's was a non-believer."

To me, Don't Tell Me, Judgement Day, Mine All Mine, and parts of Best of Both Worlds are very NON-CHRISTIAN. That's part of why I HATE Mine All Mine. OU812 was the last of my VH cd collection and I was lookin through the lyric book and I saw those lyrics, gave them one listen ((cause if it was moderately good, I'd listen to it like I do Don't Tell Me.)) and NEVER listened to it again. I simply can't stand the song.

"A good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.' Think about that for a while." Nuke LaLoosh

"You say you don't wanna dance,
    Honey listen to me.
Shut your mouth and hit the floor."

    Big Bubba:

I don't see how the lyrics to 'Mine All Mine' lead you to believe that VH was starting to sound like a Christian band.

    Stop lookin' out
    Start lookin' in
    Be your own best friend
Stand up and say 'Hey! This mine all mine.'

Sammy is preaching self-reliance, while the various flavors of Christianity preach total reliance on Jesus.

'Mine All Mine' is a great song! (Sammy, you da man!)

The anti-religious lyrics of Sammy in those albums could be the one thing that keeps me from buying them at some point. Van Halen isn't about religion (or a lack thereof) - Van Halen is the original good-time band. If I want songs with the occasional religious theme, I'll play some of my U2 albums.

Look at some of Hagar's solo stuff too. Sympathy for the Humans. That's not Christian like at all.

Yeah, it's suprising to see VH sing about religion. That is true. But about them sounding like a Christian band, that's not.

I was about to mention that, except in Judgement Day he says "Got no Faith, got no religion." "I'll just slide, slide on bye. Never bad enough to crucify me. Put it off, until Judgement Day." That's a bit much IMO. Even more than Don't Tell Me. I don't listen to that song much anymore because of it.
