Van Halen's music from 78-84 was bad ass .
I think that maybe Sammy felt intimidated by those songs so he stayed away from those songs in concert .

I have only heard Sammy do one Dave era song besides Jump , Panama , & Ain't Talkin Bout Love . And that song was Unchained which was played live on their 93 tour when I seen them .

The only thing that perplexes me is what ever happened to Summer Nights ? That was a great song . Not only did Sammy ignore most of the 78-84 shit , but he also left out some great 86-91 material .

The reason why I say Sammy is because I have read countless interviews that he has stated that he picked most of the setlists that the band played . Good Enough was a rocker too .
It was cool seeing them play Good Enough live in 86 .

A.F.U. off of OU812 was a great stadium rocker as well . Black & Blue too . All I hope for is if Van Halen goes on tour sometime and if Sammy is back , maybe they could pull out some more obscure Van Hagar songs instead Why Can't This Be Love or Right Now .

I am not saying those are not good songs but
it would be cool to see the band pull some different songs out of their bag . Mix it up a little bit ya know guys

I would like to hear Summer Nights just as bad as Hot For Teacher , catch my drift ?

My first inclination was to say that there's no chance of Sammy ever being back in Van Halen, but then I guess if VH has taught us anything over the last five years, it's that you never know. I certainly don't think we're going to see Sammy singing with VH anytime soon. It's Dave and VH's turn to see what they can do, though who knows where they will be in several years. Personally, I hope they are back with Dave and that it's the final incarnation of Van Halen.

I do agree on the whole setlist situation. Van Halen were always too regimented with their song selection throughout their whole career in my opinion. And like you said, Summer Nights was a song that was sorely left behind the last few tours they did with Sammy.

yeah and let's not forget the song "5150". That song was dearly missed over the years.. I was getting sick of WCTBL, Fininsh What Ya Started, Jump & Panama Live (with Sammy).

Since it did not work out with Dave in 1996 I have tended to believe that Hagar would be back .

More than likely it will be a "New Guy" but hopefully they will start mixing their set list up a bit . Instead of playing When It's Love , which by the way is one of my favorite Van Hagar songs , maybe replace it with Love Walks In .

He did Runnin' With The Devil once, and it was the whole song too. I used to have that MP3.

I'm almost positive they never did Inside live. Which is probably for the best; it's okay for what it is, but it's not the kind of song I'd really want to hear them do live.

Van Hagar did "Make It Last" a lot--Van Air Roth used to rev up that number in the mid '70's.

I've had my fill of Sambo w/that ole nuclear endocrine system...I wish Van Hagar woulda stayed away from butchering Dave tunes and just concentrated on varying the Van Hagar,Sammy solo,Montrose, and cover tunes a lil' mo...

But w/the mighty Dr.Dave at the helm,I will be a smilin' mofo OH YEAH!!!!!!

    Keep it real,Loons.

I think they sort of got stuck on FUCK, what with having essentially two tours for that one.

If they'd have played 5150 on the Balance tour, a lot of us would have really enjoyed that. But at the same time, I think a lot of the audience would've felt a little lost.

The 3 tour was a good example of that. I'd guess that 2/3 of the audience at the show I went to didn't recognize the classics very quickly, if at all. Thankfully, that'll all change soon enough.

Glenn buddy, you're thinking the wrong way. All the chaos of the past 5 years hasn't shown that anything can happen; it's shown that Dave needs to come back on a permanent basis. That's just my interpretation, though.

I agree that Dave needs to come back permanently, but "needs to come back permanently" and "is coming back permanently" aren't the same thing.

I wish it were that easy though.

I totally agree with the setlist change up. I only heard them play runnin with the devil at the monsters of rock shows. Summer Nights should have been a mainstay in the set.

If they tour this year and play Jump and Panama during the encore I won't be pleased

Not sure what the relevance is of that, but I love the quote.
