Fire in the Hole

Not to bag on VH III - there are some tunes I like on this album but to me Fire in the Hole sounds like a fricken KISS song!

Thoughts? Or am I out of my mind?

I agree - I can't think of a particular song, but the chorus definately sounds like kiss. Cherone always sounded like Paul Stanley to me.

Kiss? Not with that guitar playing it doesn't. Ace Frehley couldn't play an Ed lick if he practiced for the next 25 years, he sucks.

Ace is so bad he had to have the lead guitarist from a tribute band teach him his own solo's!

I think Fire in the Hole is one of the best tracks off of 3. Oh yeah-KISS SUCK!!!

The guitar is great on the song but I have to agree that the chorus does sound Kiss-like. The 'hey hey hey' part sounds like 'I Love It Loud'.

By the time I got to this song on the Cherone effort with Eddie, I turned it off. Too bad for Van Halen. This song is so awful, the bros. should be ashamed ! [img]graemlins/wtf.gif[/img]

I got a lil story for that song: I´ve studied audio engineering here in Germany at the SAE ( Chris Lausman from Bonfire was my teacher!) and we discussed this song in our Recording-lesson as a bad example how not to record. The guitar at the beginning is distorted as hell, i mean not guitar distortion, but tape distortion which destroyes the sound. This is a truly beginner mistake so to speak!

Yeah the first riff of the song is overloading the speaker. In fact I asked about it on this forum about a year ago. I didn't know if I was having stereo trouble or if it was recorded that way. Later in the song when he does the opening riff again, you can also hear that crackle. Not a pro recording job if you ask me.

Oh and about the Kiss reference above. I don't hear it on Fire, but one of my first thoughts about One I Want was that the vocals sounded like Kiss. Just the vocals though, not the playing.

Trenn - First time I heard the song I noticed that too, and thought it was my speakers. I couldn't believe a VH album was recorded that bad....but I guess it was. There's actually another VH song that does that too, but it is escaping me right now which one.
