If i remember correctly, Ed mentioned in an Interview for the VH3 album, that "Between us two" was worked over and ended up being Year to the day on the VH3 album. Makes sense to me, cause i always felt that YTTD was a "Follow-up" to "Feelin´".

A Year To The Day is by far my favorite Van Halen song. I love the solo(s) because they sound mournful and a little "empty". The understanded bass and drum performance gives the song space to breathe. The lyrics are good, not the greatest in the world but I've heard far far far worse. Overall the highlight of the VH III album.

Well why would they take their "Stairway to Heaven" and turn in into "Stairway to the toilet"...If the Year to the DAY is sooooo great why was it not released as a single??

A year to the day is one of the best songs created by Van Halen PERIOD I remember first listening to the C.D. release party driving back from College and being so incredibly disappointed with III. I wanted to hear an improvement of balance.-This song was one of the few that reminded me of why I loved V.H. You can really feel the expression in the music.There is nothing like playing a good guitar with a good amp.Great Great blues tune.---As far as not being a single-
I really think VHIII wound up being a protest with warner bros and the band manager?

That's a little disappoinitng to know that Between us Two became YTTD. I was looking forward to a possible future release of Between us Two. YTTD the day is similar to Feelin. Both are uncreative attempts to mimic Stairway to Heaven. They can create their own Stairway to Heaven by having a song go down in history not copying it. You can almost argue that Jump and Right Now are those songs that will go down as such.

Great songs aren't always singles.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

</font>
"Stairway to Heaven" wasn't released as a single either - although I'm not comparing "Year to the Day" with "Stairway to Heaven". YTTD has some great music but the lyrics and vocals were not Gary's best.

i think it's a solid song, one of my favorites. i thought it was some of gary's strongest work on 3. good songs don't get plucked off of albums to be played on radio anymore anyways - it's either the flavor of the month pushed by the business, or the same old playlist on "classic" rock. i love those songs, but mix it up a little bit. year to the day, i'm the one, or 5150 would be welcome and well-needed on the radio.

My point is this: If Van Halen had a hit that big they would release it. Especially at that point in their careers. With a new singer that nobody liked. They needed a miracle. I thought "Once" was the best musical piece on the cd. That maybe was the stairway to heaven for van halen.

The problem with Van Halen 3 was that the album was one of the least radio friendly efforts of Van Halen's career. Most of the songs were over 6 minutes in length and that's never a good blueprint for radio viability not to mention the fact that the band tried to brach off into unchartered territory with some of the music. If they had stuck with the tried and true with Gary and not gone for that ecclectic vibe they would have had a better shot in succeeding with VH3. The most radio friendly track on the album "That's Why I Love You" was replaced with a "Josephina" when it clearly could have been a solid second single for the band. Their were a lot of miscalculations that occured with the record but hindsight is always 20/20 I guess.

Are you fools kidding?? This song F***** ROCKED, The whole III album was so open minded and so soulfull, that either you had the mental capacity to get it, (which alot of you didnt'and still will never) or you only understand "strum n drum" hook songs. This song was so full of life and Gary's vocals kicked. VH fans sometimes are so full of it, you wanted a solo from Ed, and III was it, and ya bitched! When I talked to Ed about III he said he did the best to his ability on it. Ed and AL and Mike and Gary, poured their total hearts to the album and beared what they were feeling. Ed was so pleased with the album when he wrote me, so proud of Gary. And your "fans" response to this output... and I read bullshit on this site about where is VH, DAVE, SAM fueds that are POINTLESS KIDS arguements. JESUS. I am very sorry that VH is no more, with NO PLANS right now on continuing at this point. All because Gary wasn't well received, "fans" huh?? yeah.
Van Hager, Dave, Ed needs a solo album, you had it all and now it's all gone, bitch, bitch, bitch is all i hear.

Lednash,
Tell your buddy Ed that most of us don't have Lambos in the driveway and that fans will buy good VH music, not just any VH music. I'm as big a VH fan as the next guy (Dave is the fave here) but I'm no sheep. I gave VH3 to my friend (a bigger VH fan than I) and he hated it. Some material on VH3 was borderline OK but overall, I gave the album a D+. If VH wants to take their ball and go home because one album flops then so be it.
Ballot or the Bullet?? Geez, when did VH acquire a political philosophy? We don't need no stinkin message, we just wanna rock! Oh NO!!! Is that a wimpy keyboard ballad I hear?? We are all getting older but that don't mean we need to get sappy on our musical tastes (some have, I haven't)
