On Pop-Up-Video tonight they had a BBMak video
, and mentioned that they covered Extreme's "More Than Words". Then they put up a graphic with a picture of BBMak and a picture of Extreme with the text "Mak and cheese". Now, I'm no Extreme fan, but I think calling Extreme "cheese" over a BOY BAND is fuckin' ridiculous!!!

I think More Than Words is a great song, it's definately a classic.
I think that this topic is more suited to Songs and Albums, since we put Dave and Sammy solo songs there, I suppose Extreme can go there too.
I'm moving it there.Right Now you're reading my post!

seen, I'm noticing you have a real affinity for singing lately. First in the "Singalong w/FORD" thread, now here. I move that we start a "Seenbad Karaoeke B&G" thread and let you warm up the mic.

It seems that "More Than Words" is a popular song for boy bands to cover...Westlife did a cover of that song as well. In our yearbook, there were song quotes; More than Words was included. But naturally, all the airheaded folk who ran that excuse for a publication automatically gave Westlife credit, and probably haven't the slighest clue Extreme did the song.
And don't the Pop Up Video people realize Extreme did other songs besides More than Words and Hole Hearted?!? Very ignorant to imply that Extreme's catalog in its entirety is cheese - obviously they never bothered to listen to III Sides, for example.

That just proves my opinion that VH1 is on the definite road to boy band/teen queen/diva/rap road that MTV eventually took. This used to be such a kick ass program to watch but it seems that the execs have opted to join the marketing-to-teenagers agenda.
This happened right around the time that Streisand got a hold of the decision making process and when they held the week long divas special which featured her(of course).
I've cut off my cable so I can't say that I'm currently familiar with other programming featured on VH1, but when I did cut off, it seemed to be going to shit. VH1 Classics looked more promising.

MTV never ran any other Extreme vids anyways. i may have seen Stop the World once or twice, which, depending on your criteria, may be cheese also. i'd say blame the record company for putting out shitty (cheesy) singles, then blame MTV for playing them."is this a good show tonight, or fuckin' what?" - DLR, Montreal, 11/10/07

Here's one for the desert-island, all-time worst songs list. I don't see how this is related to Van Halen at all...

I hate the song. To me, Extreme's best long-play experience can be found in III SIDES. Great album. MORE THAN WORDS is definitely cheese to me, and in no way represents the sound they usually go for. It's one of my least favorite songs of all time.
Now PEACEMAKER DIE, REST IN PEACE, HIP TODAY, even TRAGIC COMIC...those are great Extreme songs. I don't know why, but I've always loved TRAGIC COMIC. It reminds me of The Beatles. I can hear fucking Barbara Streisand covering MORE THAN WORDS."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

I remember the time I played "Am I Ever Gonna Change" for a few people, and it blew them away. When I told them that was Extreme, they were utterly amazed that Extreme did more songs than More Than Words and Hole Hearted. Not only that, but I may have converted a couple more fans.
Stop the World is actually kinda cool. I don't mind that one too much. It fits in well with the transition to the third side, IMO.
It's a shame you can't find III Sides in stores anymore.

I always thought this song was too similar to Mr. Big's hit just a few weeks prior "To be with You." Both had that stripped down, acoustic feel, all touchy feely and shit. Personally both tunes made me turn em off.

Really, you can still buy it here. It's a great album.
I believe that More Than Words pre-dates Extreme's first album. It's an okay song, but there's way better songs on the Porno album, and it's funny that people associate Extreme so much with an acoustic ballad given the bulk of their catalogue.
