Well today was a free day...no job...no school...no family...no girl...all the day i was in my room listing Van Halen...I started with Impulsive Balance(great gig...) after that i listed F.U.C.K. (this one blows my mind
)...after that I hear 1984, Fair Warning, Ou812 and Van Halen II...so then I saw Van Halen 3...and yes, I played on my stereo (max volume of course
)...and so...I though: "Damm man that excellent album!!!!!"
Usually i though that Van Halen 3 was a good album...but I don´t know why I change my mind today...but anyway VH3 is an excellent album...and yeah Gary is a awesome singer (not as good as Sammy or Dave ...but he´s good also)

What is understood need not be discussed.
Everybody is lookin´ for somethin´; somethin´ to fill in the holes...? is Van Halen right???

I dig it, too. Production's pure shit but musically Eddie's never sounded better. Mike and Alex are notably absent on a lot of songs but it still has a lot of high points for me. Gary's a really gracious guy, too, admitting Dave's the best frontman for the band and encouraging them to get back together. And as for anybody saying Gary didn't fit with the band, I whole heartedly disagree. I'll admit, the album sounds pretty random and isn't tight like previous albums but live, they were incredible. The whole band was in top form and Gary's an awesome performer. VH3 is still my all-time favorite concert. It won't be topped unless of course a certain announcement is made......

You know how artists are always saying that if their work reaches just one person, it's a success? Well, if that's true at all, then Van Halen III was a success, because it reached me. Is it as good as Fair Warning? I'm instantly inclined to say "now way", but then I realize that it's one of those comparisons that Homeunit would refer to as "roastbeef and jello". It doesn't have to rock as hard as Fair Warning to be great, and it doesn't have to have David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar on it to be Van Halen to me. It's a very deep statement from Eddie, and I'm glad he made it.

I've said it before I'll say it again: Van Halen III is the best guitar instumental album ever recorded!...
Look I agree, in that I think Eddie's guitar techniques and style, never sounded fresher, or more inspired then on Van Halen III...(Excepting maybe Van Halen I)....BUT having said that, there are far too many things that pull this album down for me to call it an EXCELLENT album: Poor mixing job, tinny sounding vocals, Gary's voice buried in the mix more tha 1/2 the album, cheesy lyrics at times, and that horrible expirement in self indulgance known as: "How Many Say I"...Yuck!...
In conclusion I will say that I respect Eddie and the boys for taking a chance with this album, and I love his guitar in it....but to call it an excellent album, I am inclined to disagree....
Just my humble opinion....
What does everyone else think?

I listened to it a lot, and gave it a chance, but it fails my ultimate indicator of wether I dig an album.. I wasnt playing it any more 6 months later
Some bits I dig. Eddies little outro on 'without you'.. 'Dirty Water dog'.. 'One I want'.. If I'm in the mood, then 'Once' even sounds pretty good... BUT I cant listen to 'fire in the hole' (Was Gary Gargling marbles when he tried to sing that).. and 'YTTD'.. I think its an abysmal tune ('bare assa bawwen wooooomba'?!?.. gimme abreak!)
Ultimatly, whist Ed IS in pretty impressivwe form, it just lacks the hooks. All the guitar wizardry in the world is wasted if you can't get the songs to gel. Gary sounds strained, Mike musta had fun down the beach, coz he wasnt around a lot while they made this
So I don't hate it.. I just dont listen to it a whole lot.. and that (from a VH album) means it was a flop, to my ears at least

I really TRIED to love Van Halen III..Believe me I did. I bought it the day it came out and listened to it non-stop for a week or more....So it wasn't like I was unwilling to give the album a chance. Hell I still pop it in every now and then and listen to PARTS of it I like...The album is not without its moments: I especially like the song "From Afar" the guitar solo wizardry in "Year To The Day", the guitar intro to "One I Want" I love the outro to "Fire In The Whole" and actually like the song "Once" (The whole thing) and PARTS of the song "Dirty Water Dog" kick ASS, the song "Without You" I feel had the strongest hooks in it on the whole album....But having said all that I still cannot say it is an AMAZING or EXCELLENT album all around...There are too many things wrong with it that I have mentioned previously in this thread to call it that...
just my opinion again

C'mon I loved a Year to the Day, especially after listening to it a few times. Fire in the hole has some awesome guitar work on it but the vocals are just way too anoying. I don't really like Garys voice but I can still listen to the album because hell, I listen to Dream Theater and their vocalist would be twice as bad as Gary.
Peace out bros.

Gary was strained on that album - FITH certainly didn't sound like him at all. It's a cool song, great guitars, but Gary was way off with some of his screaming - wasn't Gary-like at all.
To this day, I haven't listened to How Many Say I all the way through, and I've had the album for a while now.

T'other day, my friend Matt asked me, "Which is better, VH3 or VHI?" And I just couldn't say...because 3 is a different animal. It's all about Ed. It's probably the closest thing to an Eddie solo album that we'll ever get. I don't reach for it as often as I do the rest of 'em, but I still think it was great music. It shows how diverse our favorite band is.

Wow!? Good point LS, I just kinda wished Ed wouldn't of been so stubborn as being the only producer or whatever he was cause it's lacked I thought, that 3rd opinion helping out with ideas. I wonder what WB's thought on that whole fiasco with just him producing the alblum. But I do think Ray Daneils tricked or persauded VH in hiring GC and for that I give a lot of blame on RD. Why didn't the VH brothers see through his scandeles ways?

VH III is like that girl you wake up with the next morning when you've sobered up and ask yourself, "What the hell was I thinking and what the hell was I drinking?" It's a totally disjointed mess of an album, a one-time abberation and mistake by The Mighty VH. It was an epic nightmare, but Dave's coming to wake us up.

Everyone has different tastes and it is just another side of "EddIE"(spelling Dusie). He needed to get that out and Gary was the best guy to make that record with. I agree the sound should have been more like Balance but it is its own thing. Why don't we pick on OU812?
