Does anybody else have trouble distinguing these two songs? Don't even the words "Bottoms up!" and "Outta love!" sound too much alike? Just an observation.

Bottoms Up's riff sounds so much like ZZ Top's LaGrange, I'm surprised I never heard about ZZ Top complaining/anything like that.
Still a great, kick-ass song!
Outta Love Again is IMO the worst Dave-era VH song--I always FF to Light Up the Sky. To me, it just sounds like filler, like they didn't put much effort into it.LIGHT 'EM UP!! <br />Smoke 'em if you got 'em!<br /><br /><a href="http://vhstrungout.com" target="_blank">StrungOut</a> Administrator<br /><a href="http://ClassicVanHalen.com" target="_blank">ClassicVH</a> / <a href="http://diamonddavidleeroth.com" target="_blank">Diamond Dave</a> Moderator

Bottoms Up is one of my favorite DLR era songs. I don't really care much for Outta Love Again, but it has a pretty good solo.

First things first, ZZTOP are the ripoff artists when it comes to that riff since they stole it from John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillin'" and aside from that, "Bottoms Up!" does not resemble the riff that much IMO to make a stink about it.
"Bottoms Up!" is a great blues-influenced rock tune and great all the way around. Plus. OLA isn't very good at all.
HEY, MUH MUH BABY... BOTTOMS UP!

I guess I am just a "junkie" but how can you not like the riff to "Outta Love Again" ?
"Bottoms Up" is its own unique song. I never thought of it as a ZZ Topp La Grange sounding tune.
2 of my favs from the Van Halen collection.

A couple of good tunes from the result of some serious jamming. Bottoms Up! is a great drinking song as well.

Chill, AxeSlingerDude!! I just said it sounds so much like it; didn't say anything about rippin' 'em off now did I? We all know musicians ripoff each other, sometimes unintentionally, and even the great ones do it too--it never really hurt Zeppelin. VH covered LaGrange in its early days, so who's to say there wasn't an influence.
At least we're in agreement on OLA.LIGHT 'EM UP!! <br />Smoke 'em if you got 'em!<br /><br /><a href="http://vhstrungout.com" target="_blank">StrungOut</a> Administrator<br /><a href="http://ClassicVanHalen.com" target="_blank">ClassicVH</a> / <a href="http://diamonddavidleeroth.com" target="_blank">Diamond Dave</a> Moderator

Outta Love is a great song instrumental-wise. Just listen to what Alex does through the entire song. Jesus! The guy plays like an animal. Ed's leads are among his best in the song.
I don't, however, care for the song itself. The main riff is flat, simplistic, and generic. I'll usually skip over this song when listening to VH2.Scott Roberts

I've got to disagree with most of you on this one. Outta Love Again kicks ass!!! Scott, I agree with you on Alex's drum work on this song. It's some of his best.

I've never found that the two songs really reminded me of each other. Maybe now I will.
Bottoms Up!! is an awesome song, with one of Eddie's coolest solos. When I first got into VH, Outta Love Again was a song I skipped most of the time, but now I love it.

2 of the more obscure (sp?) songs from VH2 that really rock! Personally, I prefer "Bottom's Up" but it's cool to hear "Outta Love Again" once in a blue moon.

Wow, I dig both songs. I didn't know so many could take or leave OLA... Man, being right all the time sure is lonely.
Scott's on the money concerning Al's drumming on OLA. I think Al took an extra puff off of Glenn's crack pipe to get those results.
The riff to Bottoms Up is similar to La Grange. I don't think it was an issue of theft, because it's not as if Eddie was hurting for originality. I think it was more of a tip of the cap on Eddie's part, acknowledging that he digs the song. VH have always been fans of ZZ Top. Not only did they cover several of the band's songs, but I remember reading an old interview where the reporter mentions ZZ Top blasting on a boom box that VH had while on tour supporting WACF.
I also remember reading Eddie talking about Billy Gibbons. He said that he took a lot of flak for all the keyboards circa 1984, much the same way Billy took heat for... Playing the piano? I think that was the instrument, at least.

um, i like bottoms up. i think it's a really cool tune.
i do think that OLA has cool drums, but it is boring.
definitely the best part about OLA is that light up the sky is right after it.
