Jump on 5150 tour

Letting certain fans come up and sing this song was probably a good idea initially, but I'm listening to the Little Rock show and that fan they picked to sing that song totally f**ked it up! [img]smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] I mean, you can just feel Ed and the other guy's fur just bristling 'cause that dipwad didn't know the freakin' words! Ugh!! How can you NOT know the words to Jump? At least get the chorus right, dumbass...sheesh! [img]smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] It goes like this...

"JUMP!" (bum bum bum da da daaa da, da da da daaaa...crash) "JUMP!"

Did anyone else see the 5150 tour when this happened? I thought I heard that when they were in Miami or Chicago or NE, that they had some NFL players get on stage and sing it.

All those years ago when I used to buy Circus and Hit Parader all the time I remember reading an article about the Dave vs. Van Halen feud. And there's a couple of quotes that I remember word for word to this day. One of them was that Van Halen would get the most "blitzed and drooling" audience member to sing Jump. And I'd never heard it until recently when I got a 5150 tour bootleg myself. Frankly, I was embarressed listening to it. If they wanted to take a shot at Dave, at the very least they shouldn't have done it at the expense of one of their songs.

The other quote I remember is, at the end of the article, it said that Van Halen gets "a million points for guitar playing, zero points for class".

I've heard a few bootlegs and most of the people sounded like crap. After drinking and screaming for 2 hours, that's the wrong time to try and have a fan sing.

On a different note, when John Mellencamp did his VH1 Storytellers special, he had someone sing the middle of 'Pink Houses'. That guy did so well, John had sing the rest of the song as well.

I actually prefer Sammy singing Jump over Panama. For some reason Jump just seems to work better with Sammy than Panama.

I actually thought Sammy did a pretty decent job singing Jump. If you think it sounds like shit chances are you never bothered to listen to it. [img]smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img]
Ill admit Sammy version of Panama suffered during the Balance tour but besides that I think he did a pretty decent job on the Dave material he performed. I especially dig his version of ATBL.

When I seen that tour Sammy picked a girl out of the audience to sing Jump. She actually did pretty good, and she was jumping around having the time of her life. I remember I was jealous! [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

I really did not like hearing Sammy sing ANY of the Dave era Van Halen songs. The fact that they had fans singing Jump for them , while it would be awesome to be the fan, is not one of my favorite memories of the band.

I did like hearing Van Halen rip through some Sammy tunes though. I got to see them do Make It Last and Rock Candy. I was always hoping Sammy would bring out his slide guitar and play Bad Motor Scooter with Van Halen. Now that would have been Kool !! No need to bring a fan up to sing that for them......

I think the whole thing about Sam gettin' someone from the audience to sing "jump" on the 5150 tour was because when it was announced that Sammy had taken Dave's spot in VH (rather quickly I might add),someone asked Dave what he thought of said transition and Dave said "Poor Sammy..everynight for the rest of his life he has to sing Jump,but I will never have to sing one of his songs"...
