One of the things that I like most about early Van Halen and even some of the stuff on 5150 (i.e. Good Enough) are the breakdowns/interludes in the middle of the tune. What I mean by "breakdowns/interludes" is the part where the song slows down and gets quieter like in Unchained where it goes "come on Dave gimme a break." Romeo Delight and Unchained both have really cool breakdowns in the center. Which one do you like better? I go with Romeo Delight .

Yeah in the early VH stuff the bridge would get slow, and it was real coool I would go with Unchained here!
I am awesome

Romeo Delight
I think Dave was rather annoying in the Unchained interlude. I almost always hit the Skip button after Ed's solo. The one in RD is awesome.

I'm one of the few VH fans who really doesn't like "Unchained." It's just not one of my favorite songs in their catalogue. The "Romeo Delight" breakdown and the whole song IMO tears "Unchained" apart, but nobody will listen to me...

The one in Unchained is pretty good but it doesn't come close to Romeo Delight.

RD blows it away! I don't care too much for Dave's schtick in Unchained. It doesn't do much for the song.

Interesting question.
I like Unchained a bit more as a song, but the better breakdown by far is Romeo Delight. I like the fact that it shows the darker, more dramatic side of VH.Scott Roberts

This ones a push for me. I like the weird sounds that Eddie got our of his guitar for 'Romeo Delight'. On the other hand, I like the riff in the middle of 'Unchained' plus Dave's schtick.

As usual, no way could I pick one over the other. Both are classic Van Halen with Dave songs.
Romeo Delight and Unchained : 2 of my favorite Van Halen songs.

I hear you Bro!
RD it's the honest to God song that without a doubt made me believe that Alex Van Halen is the BadAss motherF*cker drumming master that we know. Eddie and Dave are great on this one, but Alex RULES!!!Do you think we migth still have to wait anyway?

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.

"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt
