Maybe it's just that I'm a big VH fan but I've gotta say VH3 was a damn good album.

Don't feel the same? Play it again and again. Somewhere in there it grabs hold. The music is strong and carries the whole thing.

I know, Eddie's singing debut is laughable but the rest is top-notch VH.

Can't you let somebody express a positive opinion about this album without you shooting it down? If you haven't seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, do it soon. Ben Affleck has a great quote about people that supposedly hate something but they talk about it NON-STOP. Why is that?

VH3 is a decent enough album. I thought Gary could have been better vocally but given that he didn't have a huge say in the entire production of VH3 I thought he did a fairly good job. The show that I saw in Toronto was top notch and no one seemed to care that it was Gary singing Humans Being or Jump. It's too bad that the follow up to 3 never saw the light of day because maybe then some of you would have had a different opinion of the guy.

Well, in an effort to keep this from becoming another fucking thread revolving around ford, I'm going to comment on 3.

    USFestvet-

I think some parts of III have good moments too. Year to the day has just awsome guitar phrasing. I even think Once is a pretty catchy tune. I can respect the ability to expand outside of rock and do something new. It's a good piece of music. Fire in the hole has a perfect rock guitar track and killer outro, and I'd love to learn how to play Josephina on an accoustic.

I could leave the rest of it behind pretty easily though. The album flows well together I guess, but I'm just not wildly excited about much of the music.

I guess basically, I've come to terms with what it is and tried not to tie it to anything they have done previously and compare. That wouldnt be fair to the album, but really, I just didnt like it that much overall.

    The tour kicked ass though!

I LOVE Dave's work with VH and his solo stuff up until YFLM. My BBQ restaurant comments were a response to the hard-core Dave heads who were talking like Dave was still producing Fair Warning-quality albums and headlining stadiums. When in actuality, his career was in worse shape than Van Halen's at that time. Obviously that's not true now, he's headlining a high-profile tour with Sammy and raking in huge bucks. My hat goes off to him and I'll be seeing him in a little over two weeks. Can't fucking wait.

I treat all 3 eras as unique bands. Classic Van Halen took us to the peak of rock power, Van Hagar gave the masses a dose of VH that was radio friendly and clean/pretty enough for anyone. I agree with Sammy when he said VH3 was sort of an Eddie solo album.

In my world, each era does not reflect on another, they stand or fall on their own.

Lucky for me, I like 'em all.

Dave on the other hand tests my undying devotion everytime he stops rockin and starts talkin.

You´re totally right, dude. In fact, "A Year to the Day" is one of my favorite songs!!!!. Gary has a hell of a voice, I´m sorry he had to left VH....the guy is a great singer. Any album with Eddie, Alex and Mike is always gonna be a hell of an album!!!

I felt sorry for Gary on 3. Just coming off throat surgery and he has to push his range to sound like Sammy - ick. But yes, VH3 definitely has its moments. Ed's guitar playing was great, particularly on "Fire in the Hole."

VHIII had its moments, some of which I wouldn't mind hearing the likes of again - as long as they make it clear that it's the Eddie Van Halen Project right up front, this time.

While the lead vocalist issue has a certain undeniable gravity attached to it - and I've made my own views on this pretty clear - it was Mike Anthony's near absence on VHIII that cemented it as a mostly solo effort for a Bug.

That said, I thought "Year to the Day" was one of III's more notable accomplishments, as well.

I think the cd had good moments on it too, and i always bad mouth gary, but every once in awhile i pick up the cd when i'm goin' through some tuff shit, and thinking about stuff.. And lyrically and musically some of the songs are powerful.. And when i listen to old extreme cds, and toj.. That is just gary's voice.. He just happens to slightly sound like sammy.. My opinion on the cd
The songs i like on the disc are
    1: Without You
    2: Ballot Or The Bullet
    3: Fire In The Hole
    4: That's Why I love you
5: sorry forgot to add-- year to the day
6: From Afar--- i like the song when it starts going into.. "there must be a better way."
could have been fixed to kick ass
7: Once (When it breaks into actually singing, not like the boring verses) it seems to get powerful, but then goes nowhere as some of the other tracks on this cd could have been a little fixed up..
But, i actually do like certain parts of this cd, and i have given it a couple listens.. Eddie belted out a lot of emotions through these riffs, and they are just not vh style.. Musically it was great.. But i agree, it shouldn't be called van halen... I personally didn't like the tour, except seeing the band (not gary) jam into some classics..

I think that VH III is a good album, it's not one of my favorites, but I like it.

It would be a lot better if the production on it wasn't so poor. Gary's voice sounds really bad on songs like Once and From Afar, I can't stand those two songs.

Josephina is pretty cool, I also think that Fire In The Hole and Ballot Or The Bullet are alright, I like the lyrics and solo on Year To The Day, but I don't like the singing.

Dirty Water Dog is incredible though!!! It's one of my all time favorite songs! I also think that Without You and One I Want are great.

Right Now you're reading my post!
