I've had this song going through my head for a few days and now that my house has been put back together I've been able to play it! Anyway, I looked to see if it had already been a topic, and it hadn't though it featured prominently in a topic about Glenn feeling like some bad dudes were gonna come up on him in a Caddy ala James Bond in "Live And Let Die"
Anyway, I really like the guitar sound from Edward on this one, almost the same sound they used for a lot of the disco stuff but definitely not disco! And that bass is just FUNKY SMOOTH! Good atmosphere song. Just another classic Van Halen gem that I thought deserved some props! So here they are!

The super chunk fatty funk from the Pasadena boys is one of me fav's. We're currently working it up in my band as a cover, I'll let you know when it avail as an MP3.

I like PCTS. The solo is awesome and so is the groove. Dave's voice sounds good also.

This is one of those songs that I frequently have going through my head even if I haven't heard it in a while. It's not my favorite VH song but it's definitely a great tune. Great vocals, chorus line and of course amazing guitar solo. Also shows some diversity of DLR-era Van Halen.

Great song on an even greater album.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

No doubt, I love this tune !!

I heard Alex in an interview say that this was originally going to be called "song for Reggie" ????? Dont know the significance of sharing this, but I did hear him say that and found it rather odd. I am guessing this song took the band a lil' time to put togethor.

"Drivin' me insane"....... yeah !!

Just a thought.

It always did remind me of disco now you mention it. It's got that Sly Stone "If You Want Me To Stay" type bassline. And I've always said that the solo in this tune was one of my favourites, if not THE favourite.

This was back when Eddie did guitar solos that you could sing along to...

My favorite part of the song is the solo. The sound and the way it was played. A hidden gem on 'Fair Warning'.

Great song. I like the lyrics, too, and the way Dave makes them feel.

Will you ever be the same?

I heard the very same interview. I was a little kid, maybe 14 or 15, it was on a the radio, might have been a Casey Kasum type deal where Dave and Alex did little soundbites in between songs. I taped it, but god knows where that tape is now. I thought it was a reference to Reggie Jackson. Could it have been around the same time Reggie slammed those homers in the world series? What year was that?

Jackson did that in either '77 or '78. I think it was '78. Whoops, I meant '77.
