Not Enough VS. Black Sand

Black Sand is a 'nice little ditty', but not DLR's style. It's a nice 'thoughtful' song for Dave's repertoire, but not a 'great' ballad or love song or whatever. Those are left to Sam. Sure, it's a good song, and a very good departure for DLR. I love the song.

NOT ENOUGH IS AMAZING, no arguments.

It is a ballad in every sense of the word. Amazing music by the VH boys, and inspiring lyrics.

You can't even compare the two. I admire DLR for his work, and really think 'Black Sand' is a standout track on his album, but 'Not Enough' is just a flat out great song for Sam era VH, and one of the best of his time.

Not Enough is a fucking cheeze whiz ballad, of the kind that would make Kraft pale with envy. Van Halen sings Michael Bolton! Yeah Sammy sings of love but then treated his long time wife Betsy Hagar like shit. How honest.

Black Sand however has an awesome vibe... you listen to it and you feel like exploring to that imaginary island... awesome song, possibly the best song DLR has done in the nineties.

I actually like "Not Enough", I like the piano instead of the cheese keyboards in songs like "Love Walks In" and "When It's Love". That said, however, I like "Black Sand" a whole lot more! Awesome tune!

Black Sand proves that ballads don't have to be cheesy. Not Enough is pure Velveeta, though I agree with Billy that the piano makes it slightly less processed cheese spread than previous Van Hagar synth ballads. Actually, that would mean "Not Enough" was cheddar, and "When It's Love" is Velveeta.

Anyway, Black Sand is better by far

I think (IMHO) this one is kinda a tough call. I went home and listened to DLR band album again. I DO have to say "Black Sand" is a great tune...but I love Not Enough (even if it is Velveeta)...


Call me a cheese head, but I think that song is good.

By the way, on a sidenote: It had been a while since I had put DLR Band in my CD player. That is a DAMN GOOD album!

My personal favorites have to be "Little Texas" and "Black Light".........I love those 2!
