Here is one person who gave it a 1/5
Sorry, i like posting reviews but you're all probably sick of them
To make David Lee Roth share time with Sammy Hagar is sickening. Who actually likes both singers? Pick a side. You CANT like both! When you replace a ROCK STAR with a good musician you get mediocrity. Well if you liked VAN HAGAR than that is what you are about anyway. History will remember ROTH. So buy this and put it next to your HOOTIE album. What a shame!
AND SOMEONE WHO GAVE IT A 3/5

Van Halen really should have done the double disc method with this one. One for Sam and one for Dave. They left out too many songs. The new Dave songs, I am still on the fence about. I like "Me Wise Magic", and "Can't Get This Stuff No More" is OK, but the music still has the Sammy-era twinge to them. (I believe one tune is a left over from Balance) I do wish Dave had come back for good, but now that I think about it, maybe that magic only lies within the brief period from '78 to '84. Eddie's writing has changed too much, and Dave looks really old. I felt they could have chosen better Sammy songs, but it will be interesting to see what Volume II will offer. Maybe more new Roth songs (I wish!).This is home, this is Mean Street!<br /><br /><b><br />Then one year you find ten years have gotten behind, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. - Pink Floyd, Time</b><br /><br />"Everyone knows that Van Halen with Roth is the only real Van Halen."- Mike Tramp<br /><br /><a href="http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=001366&p=66#00 1635" target="_blank"> OBEY THE DFK!!</a>

Hmmm... yeah.... sometimes makes me wish they'd released a double album back then, with the DLR era (plus the two new songs) on the first disc and the Van Hagar stuff on the second.
Would've been more fitting for several seasons:
1) There are far too many good VH songs to fit onto a single CD.
2) Guys like FORD would've been able to listen to THE WHOLE of a disc (disc one for that matter).
3) There would've been more distinction between the two respective VH eras (up to that date) since the musical difference are obvious (unless you're deaf that is ).
My two (Euro) cents about it... and my stinking opinion crawling outta my asshole.

IMO every DLR era song is awesome, will blow you away, or just amaze you, they are all just good. sammy: some are good, some are bad.
like i don't really like Can't Stop Lovin You, its alright, but i don't think it Fits on Balance. well, maybe it does, but it could fit on OU812 maybe,This is home, this is Mean Street!<br /><br /><b><br />Then one year you find ten years have gotten behind, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

Should've picked The Seventh Seal or so.

You know... and Seventh Seal for that matter would've fitted MUCH better on the best of album since it was first of all nominated for the grammy (so that should make it quality for a VH best of album) and secondly, it's more in the vein of... err... let's say Humans Being, so it'd've also fitted better into the track order if you just exchanged CSLY with TSS.
That was my point. The band at that time wouldn't acknowledge DLR's genius by releasing a single disc of his era.
W.B. can do what they like with the back-catalogue, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Roth era best-of released down the line.
