Steve Lukather Alex Van Halen New Van Halen Record?
It’s gotta be Reddit rumor clickbait right?
Still, if the Dutch magazine caught a true sound byte from either one of them…?
“Alex van Halen is working with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather on songs for a new Van Halen album. In an interview with the Telegraaf, the originally Dutch drummer said that there are many recordings that he made with his brother Eddie van Halen before his death. The legendary guitarist died in the fall of 2020 from cancer.
After Eddie van Halen's death, there was already a lot of speculation about songs that were still on the shelf. It was common knowledge that the guitarist and his brother often worked for months in Eddie's 5150 studio in Hollywood to record songs. Alex van Halen indicates that he consciously chose Lukather. "Ed and Steve Lukather were very good friends and they often worked together. There is no one who can do this process with me as well as he can."
Lukather was confronted with this news by the Telegraaf himself when he gave a concert with his band Toto in the Gelredome in Arnhem two weeks ago. "Did Alex say that? Oh, in that case the news is true. Ed, Alex and I were very close for years. It is true that we worked on it together."
In 2012, Van Halen's last studio album was released, entitled A different kind of truth. On that record, the Van Halen brothers worked with original singer David Lee Roth for the first time in 28 years. It is not yet known when the new work will be released.”
So in theory they’d add new components to existing archive material from Ed?
All I can say is, I doubt it’s true, but if it is, Alex…call the OG bassist to participate in studio.

So Alex would rather Steve-o sing and construct the lyrics to a post-Ed Van Halen album over Dave or Sam? Man. That seems...uh. Petty? LOL. I'm pretty sure both Dave or Sam would do it. Geez. Come on, Al.
It's probably all horseshit, but the thought tickles.
And yes, it's better than fucking A.I.
There's really only one appropriate title for a posthumous Ed Van Halen record, if they're really building it around recorded riffs from his own hands....Van Halen: Specter
Do it, Al. I'm behind this if it's remotely true, but...have Dave or Sam join up, and definitely include Cannonmouth's backing vox.
You will sell more units, tickets, and t shirts that way.
I'm tryin' to ponder whether I'd attend a 'Van Halen' show without Ed, or Joe. If Dave/Sam/Mike are there...with Steve on guitar...maybe. Ooof. Did I just say that? It depends on the new tunes.

The facebook post from American Music Society is the same info that VS posted. I didn't bother clicking on the Reddit link. The article in De Telegraaf has a pay wall and is in Dutch?

Yup, I think live-wise, Ed's peak was 91, 93, and 95.
