Default Steve Lukather Alex Van Halen New Van Halen Record?

It’s gotta be Reddit rumor clickbait right?

Still, if the Dutch magazine caught a true sound byte from either one of them…?

“Alex van Halen is working with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather on songs for a new Van Halen album. In an interview with the Telegraaf, the originally Dutch drummer said that there are many recordings that he made with his brother Eddie van Halen before his death. The legendary guitarist died in the fall of 2020 from cancer.

After Eddie van Halen's death, there was already a lot of speculation about songs that were still on the shelf. It was common knowledge that the guitarist and his brother often worked for months in Eddie's 5150 studio in Hollywood to record songs. Alex van Halen indicates that he consciously chose Lukather. "Ed and Steve Lukather were very good friends and they often worked together. There is no one who can do this process with me as well as he can."

Lukather was confronted with this news by the Telegraaf himself when he gave a concert with his band Toto in the Gelredome in Arnhem two weeks ago. "Did Alex say that? Oh, in that case the news is true. Ed, Alex and I were very close for years. It is true that we worked on it together."

In 2012, Van Halen's last studio album was released, entitled A different kind of truth. On that record, the Van Halen brothers worked with original singer David Lee Roth for the first time in 28 years. It is not yet known when the new work will be released.”

So in theory they’d add new components to existing archive material from Ed?

All I can say is, I doubt it’s true, but if it is, Alex…call the OG bassist to participate in studio.

So Alex would rather Steve-o sing and construct the lyrics to a post-Ed Van Halen album over Dave or Sam? Man. That seems...uh. Petty? LOL. I'm pretty sure both Dave or Sam would do it. Geez. Come on, Al.

It's probably all horseshit, but the thought tickles.

And yes, it's better than fucking A.I.

There's really only one appropriate title for a posthumous Ed Van Halen record, if they're really building it around recorded riffs from his own hands....Van Halen: Specter

Do it, Al. I'm behind this if it's remotely true, but...have Dave or Sam join up, and definitely include Cannonmouth's backing vox.

You will sell more units, tickets, and t shirts that way.

I'm tryin' to ponder whether I'd attend a 'Van Halen' show without Ed, or Joe. If Dave/Sam/Mike are there...with Steve on guitar...maybe. Ooof. Did I just say that? It depends on the new tunes.

The facebook post from American Music Society is the same info that VS posted. I didn't bother clicking on the Reddit link. The article in De Telegraaf has a pay wall and is in Dutch?

there were RUMORS going around at one point that Lukather actually is on the balance record playing on a couple of tunes cause ED was in rehab or something like that. he can do a really good ed imitation. i don't really have any faith in Al to get something like this going.

Al should just release the unused music from the past. we can probably name dozens of songs that the band says they recorded without releasing them. release that stuff don't try to piecemeal something together when you already have finished product

I would love one more real Van Halen record. If they have some existing vocal tracks for all 3 VH singers and the songs just need structure it can be done with some work. Just get Mike to lay down all the bass tracks, backing vocals and maybe Wolf on a few songs. This would be the ulitmate tribute to his brother to get one last posthumous Van Halen record released. We were talking maybe an unreleased box set but if they can lay down a real Van Halen record I don't think anyone saw that coming. Obviously there would be no tour which would be expected. A posthumous Van Halen record is the ultimate tribute to Ed.

    Al get it done.

Definitely. Unless they have vocal tracks laid down already from all 3 VH singers for some of the songs they are structuring than pretty sure DLR and Sam will pull their usual ego driven bull shit and this won't get off the ground. Which leaves Cherone, he would probably sing on it for Alex. Wolf could also sing on the whole record as well and play bass. I just hope DLR and Sam swallow their egos if they need to lay some vocal tracks down for a posthumous Van Halen release. If not than Alex's only options are Cherone and Wolf to sing to make it a real Van Halen record. If they just bring in famous singers to lay down tracks than it's not a real last Van Halen record.

Come on DLR and Sam, don't pull your crap if this is really happening.

    Fingers crossed!
Nature's intent is neither food, nor drink, nor clothing, nor comfort, nor anything else in which God is left out.

Whether you like it or not, whether you know it or not, secretly nature seeks, hunts, tries to ferret out the track on which God may be found. . .

Your idolatry of Gary and Wolfie is very odd.

Neither of them were ever true VH. Accept it.
