Lots of Love for "Damn Good"... Def a great song. When I 1st heard it in 10th grade, somehow I knew it was going to resonate with me as I got older... Now it straight up makes me cry. I can literally visualize everything I did with my friends in HS and where we are now, the ones that are still around... And not partying bullshit..

Football, Rock Climbing-Hiking... walking my dog... Staying up late watching the Headbangers Ball... band talent shows.. basically a time capsule of 1988-1991 for me.

Al could run his electric guitar through a boss acoustic pedal... Little Guitars would be awesome too...Though probably not logistically possible. Def Yankee Rose.... Always liked the vibe on California Girls.
I wish him well, but he was hard enough to listen to playing with Ed and Al post 84. Why would anyone pay a cent to watch that train wreck with AI Ed, or some cheap replica version? It doesn’t give me pleasure to constantly bag on Dave in his current state, but Sam was right in acknowledging Dave did nothing to protect his voice. Hard to understand for someone who was anal about the level of VH’s performances in their prime.

Given Dave's vocal limitations, I think he could still do these VH songs justice:

    Big bad Bill
    Could this be Magic
Top Jimmy (although when I think of this song, I think of Ed but Roth's current vocal abilities could still do this one)
Can’t get this Stuff No More
    Bottoms Up
Women in Love (another one where I think of Ed mostly, but again Roth could still pull this one off)
    In a Simple Rhyme
Push Comes to Shove (another one where I think of Ed mostly, but again Roth could still pull this one off)

I think at a festival like M3 he has to stick to the hits, very few there will give a crap about hearing Ladies Nite in Buffalo.

But if he does some smaller club shows, songs like Damn Good would be great for him, maybe Goin' Places. Tell the Truth would be another, songs that are more attainable to him vocally at this stage of his career.

I know he will never do it, but if he does some smaller club shows, my recommendation to him would be to put "Diamond Dave" to bed. Go out there and do some finger picking on guitar, play some piano, hell, even in total it is five minutes of the show, time to let everyone know there is more to him musically than he usually gets credit for.

My $0.02, that I am sure he will never follow.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

I have to agree that it'd be a mistake to whip out some deep cuts at a huge show like that. Hopefully Dave just plays his traditional Best Of from both VH and solo (minus Don't Piss Me Off). Even something like Romeo Delight might be a deep cut to those casuals.

If we're talking like a House of Blues type of show, absolutely. Play EEAS all the way through. Dust off Little Texas. Let me hear the haunting melody of Hot Dog and a Shake.

These are great picks. Tack on Damn Good and Ladies Night in Buffalo and that could be a fun (and mostly doable set).

DD says Dave should only play the hits so I guess we'll only get Jump, Yankee Rose, You Really Got Me, California Girls, Dance The Night Away, Just Like Paradise, Hot For Teacher and Just A Gigolo. Should be fun!

    From CFTH - Coconut Grove
    From EEAS - Big Trouble
    From SS - Damn Good
    From ALAE - Hammerhead Shark
    From YFLM - Big Train
    From DLRB - Black Sand
    From DD - Thug Pop

All work in a gig setting, all should appeal to the casual fan and all should suit his current range.

Big Train always makes me think of seeing Dave in a club in 94. He opened with Big Train, and people were cheering but mostly because it was Dave finally on stage. Then the song was ending and he goes "We're gonna take this Big Train down to PANAMA!"

And the place damn near exploded. Damn good times.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -
