atomicpunk5151 joked (I think) about the Rays utilising the now vacant Oakland-Alameda Coliseum while Tropicana Field is down, but I am feeling a connection to those two teams. Besides their known frugality, both teams (unless some kind of miracle happens in St. Petersburg - hey, they could still go with my blue tarp idea for the Trop) will be homeless this year. But also, the same night that the storm tore the roof off Tropicana Field, the folks in Las Vegas blew up the Tropicana to clear space for the Athletics future home!

I'm interested to see if the new Orioles owner David Rubenstein who also owns the private equity firm The Carlyle Group will spend the money to keep the Orioles competative in the AL East. If he doesn't he's going to get destroyed in the Baltimore press. Oh and btw everyone is tired of the Orioles not winning anything in October with this current nucleus. Many want a new manager. Its fun the first few years when a team turns it around but then you have to win it all in postseason. We have the Ravens with that problem also since 2012 and a 2 time MVP QB who's headed for number 3 MVP unless he gets hurt.

i just feel the playoffs become such a crap shoot with so many teams involved. Fortunately (sort of) the cream actually rose to the top this year but I'd still like to go back to a time when fifth and sixth place teams went home at the end of the regular season. I do hope the new ownership keeps the Orioles strong - that's really all you can ask for these days and just hope they are peaking one of these years when playoff time comes (and that they've made the playoffs that year)

As I've said, I hope the O's ownership keeps them competitive, despite being a division rival of my team. I've always had a soft spot for that franchise. It was good to see more fans at the ballpark.
Keeping Burnes would be a good first step. They still have a great young core. I think Satander will be gone.

The playoff structure is shit. It just happened to work out well this year. But it normally doesn’t.

I do think in the NL there were a lot of good teams. It’s my opinion that had the Padres beaten the Dodgers, they would’ve won the World Series. But, they would’ve been the one wildcard team, even the old way.

Poor Fernando. He was gonna die regardless but at least he checked out relatively quick. That prion shit is the stuff of nightmares. It's like a slow version of rabies. No cure and always fatal while it slowly destroys the brain. I would rather commit suicide than suffer that horrible fate. At least he's now at peace!

I met Tommy Lasorda and Bobby Valentine back in the early 90s at one of Tommy's restaurants (now long gone) in Lakewood, CA.

I've probably told this story before so forgive me, but I worked at a hotel in Philadelphia where some of the teams stayed. I would keep a copy of the group list in my drawer so that if any came down, I could get their autographs. Got Bonds and Bonilla (or was it just Bonilla?), Garvey and Gwynn. The Dodgers were there and we were having an issue with, I think it was the phones, and Tommy comes down to the desk to inquire as to what is happening and I do the "wait, wait, I know who you are, um, you're, um..." bit and he responds "Steve Garvey".
