A poor excuse of a guitarist!!

I thought I would share this story.

We have had a plumber in to fix a few problems in our bathroom. He saw the Ed photo on my wall and asked who it was. On answering he said " i thought he was a keyboard player who did that song jump" Now normally this wouldn't be surprising as a lot of people haven't heard of VH or know their catalogue. What floored me was this plumber is my age (47) and has played guitar in bands for 20 years! How the fuck can he not know that Ed was primarily a guitarist who influenced thousands of players. I said as much to him but he just shrugged it off. He is a poor excuse of a player and he didn't get offered a cup of coffee after that!

I think the plumber probably heard about EVH and his music besides from Jump.

He simply never cared enough.

I agree, he must have, how could you not know being in the guitar world yourself. He came across as very ignorant about it all. It was a bit odd tbh.

Well clearly the plumber was not a Mensa graduate. My professional advice, do not use his services again.

Maybe he's in a Bluegrass band or something?

That kind of stuff happens all the time to me too. Once in a while I'll wear my EVH striped shoes out in public and someone will say how they like the design. I'll say something back like "I've always been a big Eddie Van Halen fan" and they'll say "who's that?" or "what does he have to do with your shoes?". All these people are my age or close to my age range. Every time it happens, I'm kind of floored.

ALSO - when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it might be about me - lol

It means EVH achieved 99% named recognition, and that dude is in the 1%. Still a pretty good achievement for the Dutch prodigy!

To be honest I would just get a good laugh out of it. Believe it or not there are people that only know Van Halen for Jump similar to people that only know Extreme for More Than Words. Both were #1 hits.
