We had a radio station in Dallas area called the Zoo. 98.something. I could be wrong. But, something like that. It was awesome. And no. I was born way before that.

They played all kinds of cool shit. My pops played ball there for a bit. Then moved all around. Out.

The classic rock radio stations from the past deserve our gratitude! If it wasn't for them, none of us would be here. I know, I'm talking drunk shit outta my ass but I still feel very strongly about this. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna blast Diver Down right now! Let me just make another cocktail first...

How about Intruder, where EVH tortures his guitar with a beer can? I'm sure it was a Schlitz Malt Liquor tall boy! Well, hopefully...

That’s another one of my pet peeves with many online rock fans. The instant dismissal of solo album's frequently expressed in an unnecessary ignorant manner. I just don’t get it. Not just with DLR & VH but several other artists from big rock bands solo material. If you’re a fan of the band why wouldn’t you at least be interested to hear one of the band members solo albums.

Iron Maiden as a quick example. Bruce Dickinson put out at least 5 or 6 solo albums after he left the band. I only have 2 so far but always intended to scoop them all up eventually. His second album titled “ Ball’s To Picasso” is amazing. Especially the first song “ Cyclops”. The material is solid. Almost on par with some of the best Iron Maiden stuff. The 3rd album “ Accident Of Birth” is also excellent. He recruited Adrian Smith on that one. Rock critics gave it stellar reviews. But nonetheless his solo albums didn’t sell very well & when they toured were stuck playing small venues. Even though he came from Iron Maiden who packed arenas those Iron Maiden fans clearly didn’t follow his solo career. So he returned to Iron Maiden and immediately went back to playing large venues. Stadiums in several countries. But his solo material & band were pretty much just as good as the Iron Maiden band.

Same thing happens with Roger Daltrey from The Who and Peter Wolf from The J Giels Band as a couple more examples.

I have 4 Sammy Hagar solo albums after he left VH. Marching To Mars, Ten 13, and a couple others. The 10 13 is the one I remember most because the first song “ Shack- A- Doobie” is a badass killer tune. The other one I really liked was a friends album with special guests & one of my favourite tunes was Winding Down with Taj Mahal. It is also a very cool solid powerful tune & dynamite album overall.

Now- Sammy’s recent tour was mainly focused on his VH material which was extremely successful and well received but the fans who attended were mainly there to hear the VH stuff. I’ve noticed comments saying he shouldn’t have played certain solo songs and instead played more VH. Well….its a freaking Sammy Hagar show…it’s his name on the ticket…but even though he has a full catalog going back 40 year’s or more with some great solid material from his own solo albums he only plays just 5 or 6 of his solo tunes and even then some of the fans say it’s too many.

Even Paul McCartney’s concerts are usually 90% Beatles songs. Even though he has over 40 years of solo material. Dynamite albums like Venus & Mars & Band On The Run have several great songs that he didn’t play.
    Man!! What a brilliant post!

Bruce Dickinson's solo stuff kicks way too much. I saw him live in a small venue once. Me likes some Peter Wolf's solo as well. I remember that video shoot of Come as You Are. Crazy stuff. And MacCa - I own maybe 02 or 03 from his solo records and had the chance to see him live twice. Like you said, his shows are all about The Beatles and that's not too bad. We had Band on the Run and Jet included fo the 1st time he played in my hometown (2015) if i remember that well.

    Just an observation, bro.

If I had a dime for every time I heard the summer thing for DD, I'd be MA in a hot tub sipping on a cocktail and living a life of lesuire.

Did y'all have no other cassettes or albums back in the day to play at the cookout sitting by the pool?

I became a fan well after Dave was no longer in Van Halen. I listened to a few of Dave's solo songs--whatever came on the radio--and that was enough for me. I wasn't a fan. I did the same with Sammy. I listened to a few of his pre-Van Halen songs and didn't get very far with him either.

Both of their initial runs with Van Halen however, were magic.
