Wolf did not join the band to save his dad. Believe what you want, but the evidence doesn’t back you. Because Ed started the tour wildly off the wagon. Geez, some of you need a hero more than a villain.

I don’t need anything, and I’m not a Wolf fanboy. I’m unaffected by Wolf. I didn’t say he joined the band to save his dad. But I do think his presence helped Ed get sober and move ahead. Referencing Brett’s comment, yes Ed went to rehab in 07 regardless of Wolfs presence in the band. But why? Just to come back and make money on tour? Or because he was going to die if he kept going on like he was? Or so he could function as a father, husband and brother?

Yeah, but that wasn't the core reason.

The core reason was, they'd already done a nostalgia run '07/'08. They needed a new project to tour behind for '12. So they reused old demos and called it a new album,...so that they could TOUR and make a ton of dough, again.

ADKOT didn't happen because of WVH. ADKOT happened because of touring $$$$.

This whole Ed's love for his son thing driving forward a multi-million dollar conglomerate of Live Nation promoters and Azoff holdings, lol.

It's a nice sentiment. Every father loves their children. But VH Inc. wasn't monetizing because of a father and son. It was because Live Nation was willing to pay them big bucks, so that they in turn could make even bigger bucks.

but they would have been paid even MORE $$$$ if it involved the original 4 lineup. Which is why I keep "shoehorning" a pass for the relationship between a father and his son

okay so prove your theory that they only did it for the money and none of the other things we've mentioned were taken into account in even the slightest bit. You can't because you don't have insider knowledge, unless you were in the war room with these guys when the whole thing was being put together.

The Kid was a reason. Maybe not the only reason but clearly a reason. May have been the biggest one; who among us can say definitively which was the #1 reason? Don’t believe there is a single reason at least not one that can be proven as FACT!!

1. It was a pretty conscious decision by Van Halen not to tour worldwide. In fact, if you listen to Alex’s interview from 1985

But how much of that decision was a result of them not building their presence around the world from 78 - 85? If you're not selling many albums in those territories then it's a pretty easy to say you're only going to focus on North America.

Either way, I think it was a missed opportunity for the band to become a worldwide force. Jump had been a hit around the world just recently and the loss of DLR and hiring of Sammy generated a lot of attention from the rock world and put VH in the spotlight even in the UK and Oz.

They still had a good 10 years in the tank and as they decided to tour these places in 93 and 95 then there's no reason why they couldn't have struck whilst the iron was hot - either with DLR or after he left.

Yeah there is a point where Dave couldn't sing but not for the first 6 albums. No not a Freddie Mercury clone but he did shit that honestly I have yet to hear anybody duplicate. Sammy is great too but in a more traditional sense. Dave IMO is like Eddie. Just a unique guy who you can't duplicate.
