"As Is" is not a great VH song, sorry.

"As Is" is okay. The chorus sounds a bit like the chorus in "Hot For Teacher".

That’s your opinion. The reason I used “As Is” was because it was presented to Sam and he couldn’t do anything with it.

And that song smokes.

That was one of a few songs I really liked when I first heard the album. I just recently listened to it and realized I don’t like it very much lol.

It’s just not that good.

Like most, if not all of ADKOT, it sounds like a car when a piston misfires.

I don't like the intro all that much but once the song gets going I rather like it.

Okay, I’m really not trying to stir the pot any more than it already has, but I’m nearing the end of the “Tonechaser” book and I read something about “Between Us Two” that I haven’t heard anywhere else. Here’s the passage:

“So, Alex and I went down and watched it (Twister) and got inspired immediately and wrote three pieces of music, one of them being (plays Humans Being riff) and another one that won’t get put out until another singer sings it with different lyrics or we’ll just never put it out. Instrumentally that song sounds great.”

What was that song called?

“Between Us Two. It’s acoustic guitar (plays it on the unplugged electric), I’ll play you an instrumental version of it later.”

Never before this point have I read/heard anywhere that Between Us Two had acoustic guitar. I also have never read/heard about it being looked at or considered as a potential instrumental. Really makes me wonder if this new “Unfinished” song is in fact it. Sounds like ‘96 era Peavey Wolfgang, and the acoustic in the background has a very Josephina feel to it, as I’ve said before.

Here. I’m going to guess it was during the ADKOT release. Sorry, can’t remember exact source but we discussed it here.

The riff was in his George Lopez cameo so it’s been around.

Ed had been playing that riff as early as 2003 at the infamous drunken NAMM debacle so I wouldn’t be surprised if he had that in 2001 or possibly earlier.

I can’t remember if he played it during the 1996 NAMM showcase he did or not but the video is out there. Been a while since I’ve seen it.

Hell, we only recently learned that Amsterdam was largely written before Sammy was even in the band so I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out that As Is predates Humans Being.

The more I listen to the snippet, more I'm leaning towards Between Us Two. But hey, who the heck knows?!?!

What I wonder is how the writing credits would be enforced at this point. Bruce Fairbairn is long dead. How would anyone outside of the band be able to show who wrote what?

I wonder if there might be some loophole Alex might’ve found with releasing it via Audiobook. I find it unlikely they’re gonna add song credits alongside “Narrated by Alex Van Halen” or anything beyond just that, especially if it’s just gonna be used for the introduction of the book, but they very well could.

And with Fairbairn gone and titling the unheard piece something different, he could easily get away with releasing it without credits. The only people who are gonna know are Mike and Sammy, and there’s a chance they might keep tight-lipped about that in hopes that that’ll appear as loyalty to Alex.

At least Mike will. That is, until Hagar talks about it ad nauseum in 7+ interviews, then both will acknowledge & address it on Trunk. And then wonder why Alex still wont talk.

If it was Between Us Two, from the early 90s, how could it be the last thing Ed and Al worked on? They did tons of things after that, III, the best of songs, ADKOT.

1) It was never finished.

B) It's been said Al was not heavily involved in writing of III, and barely playing on it.

2.5) How much of ADOTK could be said the same about III, or if Ed & Al had jammed on those things before the "unfinished" track.

III) If "unfinished" is Between Us Two, it was done during the best of songs. Possibly attempted by DLR during the best of sessions as one of the songs in Crazy from the Heat he said he could not pull off, and Gary might've had a crack at it as well.

It's hard to say.
