Reason I ask is I took the first special I got to a local shop to asked them to address the issue but I could still feel the tang part coming out past the fretboard. I took it back and he did it again but I still feel it there. So I don't know if that's an "as good as it can get" thing?

Where are you storing it & what's the climate like?

2 - I've seen many people identify an issue, and a competent luthier fix it, but then they have placebo issue because they got so used to feeling it. (Not saying this is the case, just a possibility)

lol Well, not saying that couldn't be the case but if it is then I guess I need to go to a psychiatrist instead of a luthier.

I'm in Northern CA. East Bay Area. So right now things are pretty dry and warm.

Dry is the problem, typically. I live in Illinois, and typically during the winter months when the humidity is low, the edges of the fretboard get a little sprout. In the summer, when the humidity is higher, it feels great. Here is an experiment for you to try. You said you had the same issue with both Specials. Go to a Cigar Shop and get a Humidifier packet and put it in the case with one of your guitars for 2 or 3 weeks, and store the other how you normally do. Compare the necks and see if you notice any difference.

To answer your question, you can just hit the fret ends with a file if you are comfortable doing it. If not, take it to a luthier and they should be able to knock it out fairly quickly. I take mine to my local Luthier, mainly because I know him and want to support his business, but partly because I just don't want to do it. There are a lot of YT videos out there that could tell you how to do it.
