I had never seen this. Very short. Ed talking about doing VHII. Dance the Night Away. I thought it was neat.

No, I’ve never actually heard him speak about that stuff like that. I did find another one where he talks a little bit about Women In Love. It must be from the same interview.

It is funny to hear him talk about such an iconic song like DTNA like “Oh yeah, I just came up with this little thing a couple days ago.” Haha. The interesting part is him talking about “trimming the fat,” because on those demos that were leaked several months ago, we can hear the progression of how DTNA took shape so fast in the different rehearsal takes.

    Cool find.

Not sure of the origins. Found it interesting that they wanted to jump immediately back in the studio after 10 months of touring. Guess they sowed enough oates, so to speak, on the road. Maybe studio was more relaxed, like a regular job.

    The “Poppy One”. DTNA. Cool.

VHII was the perfect album for them at that time. A little too polished for my taste but that's exactly what they needed for their second release and I'm glad Ted Templeman did it that way. Spanish Fly was brilliant in that it was the acoustic sequel to Eruption. And that awesome intro to Women In Love was so freakin' ahead of it's time. So much pure emotion in those few seconds!

Yep, that was it. I was trying to find it yesterday and I couldn’t.

I’m sure it popped up because you clicked on the other one. Not sure why I didn’t see it again but I didn’t.

I'm curious why they chose a cover song to open VHII? Don't get me wrong I do love it, sounds so ominous when it starts! And they totally made that song their own. But if it had been up to me, I would have switched it around and put Light Up The Sky to open the album and You're No Good in it's place on side two. I would have still kept Dave's kiss to end the record.

Probably because the biggest charting hit off of the first album was a cover.

They all still seemed so genuine at that point.

I remember reading where management, Ted T. I guess, did not want the band to cover YNG, too recent a hit he said. Dave persisted saying, “Our version will scare people.” Guess he won out. I have come to really appreciate YNG over the years tho in the early days I wasn’t too crazy about it.

    Agreed!

If it worked with YRGM, why not try it again with YNG?

I love their version for that song (YNG). And I do adore =VH= II, even more than their debut!!

One more story about DTNA. Heard Dave tell this at solo show in ‘05 I believe. Don’t know if its bs but crazy enough to be true. Don’t remember if I posted this before. As Dave told it, back in the club days the band would play 2 sometimes 3 sets. During one break at a club somewhere Dave n Al were sharing a joint outside the door leading to the back parking lot. They observed a couple in a car going at it pretty good, various stages of undress. So then Dave n Al see a couple of cops checking out the parking lot walking in the direction of the couple. They go over, knocking on the window and warn them.

So the breaks over and the band gets back onstage playing. Dave spots the girl that was in the car dancing on the floor oblivious to the fact that her pants are on backwards. The song or rather the lyrics are an ode to her.

Don’t know if that’s the true but its a hell of a story.
