Reminds me. I don't know if it's like this everywhere. Our town high school coach was a legend. Everybody who played sports had him as coach. Each class every year. I knew of no other coach for football/wrestling. Students loved him. I wrestled for a minute in Jr High. The only reason was because my sister was a cheerleader and I suppose somewhat popular. I'm not a sports guy, but I tried. He was always nice to me but stern. Why is it high school coaches garner so much respect? He was so popular that students kept in touch with him and vice versa after graduation. He was invited to weddings (was at my sister's) christenings, you name it.

    RIP Coach Swift

    Default Holy Grail?

I thought about running track in high school because I was always fast. I was skinny so yeah I was fast. My friend and I on the first day of sophomore year went to tryouts, and they made us do all this insane running. After about 15 minutes, the two of us looked at each other and said, “Fuuuuck this!” So basically we cut ourselves, and what happens then is you just spend the whole semester playing pick-up basketball for PE. Which is frankly all I ever wanted to do anyway lol.

I think they are respected because the good ones it isn't about winning the states or county. It's about shaping youg kids into men with self discipline. I missed my varisty football coaches funeral because I didn't know he died until months later. My JV coach was better and still alive living in Colorado.

They build character. My sister was in athletics all through high school, local college, KSU. She stayed in touch with a lot of those coached through out life. They were like family, friends and neighbors. A few even remembered I was one of her little brothers that she took to all her games because she was also watching us. Letting US run wild and build character... like a coach. Hope that made sense.

Yeah, I used to go to the Pasadena College swap meet (ironic I know) with my friend every month during high school and most of college, and bought bootleg LPs and CDs. I mean, that was the only way to get them back then, you had to buy them. We also used to meet a guy in an alley behind his house and buy them. Like we were doing a drug deal lol. He was like a 40-year old loser who still lived with his parents in the Hollywood Hills. And his parents didn’t want any of the weirdos that bought CDs in their house. Not that I really blame them frankly. But meanwhile, my friend and I, one of us goes to USC and one goes to UCLA, and he’s worried about us? Lol.

But he was the guy that sold me the Van Halen Warner Bros. demos, when none of those were around yet. To me that was like the holy grail at that time. And it wasn’t even all the demos I think at the time, maybe it was 12 or 13 of them (ok I just looked it was only 10) on that CD. I was like holy shit what is this!!!???

    It was this one.

Oh yeah...as soon as I turned 16 I was driving to all the local record shops flipping through the cds for boots and unreleased stuff, random memorabilia, etc....

Don't forget in the back of the guitar and rock mags you would have stuff listed as well...cds, dvds, hell even vhs.

    The good old days man.......

The cool thing was we bought so much from some of these guys that they knew what we wanted and looked for. Like the one guy knew that I wanted Van Halen, so he would get stuff in and save it for me and I’d buy everything he had. My friend was into the Beatles and Hendrix and he would do the same. I have a ton of Beatles stuff also. And it wasn’t cheap. The CDs were $25 or $30 and that was a lot back in the late 80s and early 90s for a dumb kid in school. The LPs were even more. But I never had any Van Halen boots on vinyl. It was all CDs.

There were 2 places here that sold bootlegs. I'd buy Van Halen and Pearl Jam ones. One of them had the VH Dallas, TX VHS and that was very nice to pick up at the time. I went to the concert VH put on here, and had the store order the bootleg CD. They had it the next time I went there. Good times.

I had a ton of them and ended up selling them all and bought a Peavey Wolfgang Special with the money. I still have that guitar.

The Holy Grail is still being hoarded by the Gooch. Unless someone here has money to burn and can buy a copy, we'll just have to settle for what's already been released.

There is no Holy Grail.... The Holy Grail is whatever shows you were at witnessing once in a lifetime greatness.

There will never be another Eddie Van Halen ever.
