Fair enough, you don't like the music, you don't like it. And yea, 3 was garbage...but I think there's somehting to be said about what Wolfie was taught by what he observed for all of those years. The Van Halen brothers were touchy, sensitive, defensive, dishonest, untrusting, and angry (when they weren't all smiles on stage). We are surprised Wolfie is insufferable?
Absolutely, it makes total sense that Wolfie is insufferable.

The only really annoying thing is watching hardcore fans make excuses for everything Wolfgang does (I refuse to call him "Wolfie"). He acts like a total douchebag to even the nice Van Halen fans...and if anyone criticizes him, there are people here (and even at The Army) who will make excuses for him...or even treat him like he's still some sort of "kid." Dude is going to be 40 in less than seven short years. If he hasn't learned to be a decent human being by now...

I guess if I had to pick just one it might be FOBD, because I really like the atmosphere of the song, but I love Outshined a lot too. I feel like those two songs can really put you in a dark place if you let them, Like you can FEEL them.
GUN is one of my favorite car songs. The riff is so early Black Sabbath, it's almost parody (but in a good way). And the breakdown, where Cornell just stammers, "Fuck it up" and it's suddenly the main riff played a million miles an hour...

I've made no secret of my love for Soundgarden.

I had no idea you like them at all, Brett. I guess I wrongly assumed you have hate for them like some others here.

Awesome that you bring up SLAVES AND BULLDOZERS. That is truly one of the best slow & heavy songs ever written. (It's also the last song Cornell ever sang...it was the band's encore he was singing just one hour before he died.)

Not one bad song on BADMOTORFINGER.

Dude, I’m a huge fan. I saw them twice too. No I don’t hate grunge at all. I don’t like Nirvana at all though. Not a Pearl Jam fan either, but STP, AIC and Soundgarden are three of my favorite bands period.

I was not one of those guys who cried that 80s cheese metal went away. Goofy ass bands like Slaughter and Trixter were embarrassing. That shit had to run its course. I was getting into heavier shit anyway by the time the 80s ended and I was in college in the early 90s.

I had no idea Slaves And Bulldozers was the last song he ever sang live. Wow. Well that’s quite a song to end on. It is such a heavy awesome groove. Just a great song. BLEEEEEEEED YOUR HEARRRT OUT!

I love Soundgarden. Cornell has an amazing voice. Rusty Cage, Spoonman, Black Hole Sun I usually play a few times a week. Classics.

1994 was the Summer of Soundgarden...

Superunknown was absolutely everywhere... I remember working at a gas station that summer sorta out in the moutains/woods in upstate NY. Sun was just about to set, and Black Hole Sun came on the radio... That intro, and the imagery - that brief moment in time in my life has stuck with me forever. I was completely alone with my thoughts in the Universe..

DEAD END STREET, SUNNY AFTERNOON, JUKE BOX MUSIC, LIVING ON A THIN LINE, 20TH-CENTURY MAN, VICTORIA, SHANGRI-LA, SITTING IN MY HOTEL, CELLULOID HEROES...I could sit and type amazing Kinks songs all day.
Powerman and Destroyer make it on to almost every rock playlist I assemble. The Kinks are the only band VH covered twice. Saying they suck is an interesting take from VH fan.

They actually covered them more than that. There are bootlegs of them doing All Day And All The Night too.

I wish that were the one they put on VH1 instead of YRGM. Great song.

The solo acoustic covers Cornell did over the years (eg, Nothing Compares to You, One/Metallica mashup) are next level. Dude had some pipes.

I recall long before the grunge explosion when they came out of the bag reading an interview with Kim Thayil and he said something along the lines of "all we do is play sped up Sabbath riffs." I didn't really get into them at that point yet though.

I always respected Coverdale for completely rebuilding his career the hard way after Purple folded in 1976. He could have relegated himself to the trash bin of history but he worked his ass off for over a decade and achieved a zillion selling album in 1987. I prefer the natural blues based stuff he did in the late 70's and early 80's but the guy always had a huge voice. The hair metal stuff was commercially successful but less authentic. Great stuff from Sykes and DC's vocals on Crying in the Rain were unbelievable.

I separate Whitesnake from all the other Hair Metal bands because Coverdale had such a long history in music by the time he struck gold in the US again.
