I want vault stuff to come out too. And yes, I would much prefer ever today's Dave goes to 5150 to lay down vocals on vault instrumentals...
...but, yes, I would even accept Hagar going down to finish songs and put vocals on tracks, etc...if it meant some finished "new" Van Halen music. (Well...depends...I'd rather instrumentals than UP FOR BREAKFAST-style vocal bile.)

But let's face it: Hagar never shuts up about Van Halen speculation. Every time he wants his name in a paper for some reason, he speculates about something Van Halen-related.

YET...at the same time, he admits 100% that Alex has not returned one single text, phone call, passed-on-message...NOTHING!!! Alex wants nothing to do with Hagar.

Frankly, I've never even been 100% convinced that Sam & Eddie actually hooked up (phone-wise) to re-connect before Edward's passing. The only person who has told this story is Sam. Nobody else (not Wolf, not Alex, not Yoko...er...Valerie) has ever confirmed this.

But Dreidel's right: Sam is always pushing for Sam...like he's on "the Inside"...when we all know he isn't remotely allowed with 1,000 yards of 5150 Studios. The fact that he made some comment that Wolfgang would be "cool" with them looking at the vault and maybe putting together tracks...Wolfgang has repeatedly let it be known that he isn't remotely cool or interested (let's not get started on that bullshit) in real Van Halen vault releases.

If there was enough material, I have no issues with a posthumous VH studio record, even if that means Wolf playing some guitar overdubs (and who better?) and Sam and/or Dave recording new vocal parts.

I would rather tracks be left unfinished and released as they are than to allow Wolfgang to come within an island mile of putting guitar overdubs on unfinished Edward tracks.

Frankly, unless the vault tracks they would be working on (not that this will ever happen) would be from the ADKOT-era, I would only be happy if Michael were the one going in to record bass tracks. It would, frankly, piss me off if there were (let's say) unfinished 1984-era tracks...or even Sam-era tracks...and Wolfgang (instead of Michael) were the one putting down bass parts.

Sorry...but that would be prime bullshit. Michael is alive and well. He's a better bass player than Wolfgang. I'm sure he'd be happy to lay down bass on unreleased Van Halen tracks if he were asked. There would be absolutely no good reason not to have him do it unless someone just wanted to be a dick.

Invite Dave. Sure, invite Sam. But...definitely invite Mike. (Again...it's not like this is particularly likely.)

If Alex wanted a new VH album it would be out now. He doesn't so there is not. Sam has no role in that so its just him flapping gums to hear his voice.

I had it from a very good source in 2023 that Alex was mixing/preparing some vault material in the studio in 2023...and it got shut down. NO...I could not actually pinpoint why it got shut down or who was involved. BUT...something was being listened to and being mixed...presumably for the 1986-2004 box set. Sammy even said in an interview before the box set (not that this makes it 100%) that people in the VH-camp were at some point "up at 5150 listening to unreleased songs."

From what I understand, Alex is not completely against unreleased songs.

But, interestingly, every single bit of "new" mixing that occurred for the FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE box set was not done at 5150...but instead of Brian Kehew at Timeless Recording in L.A. in October 2023 (the DALLAS live album).

What this all means for the future...who knows?

I never liked Sammy. Not because I'm some CVH snob. I like Sammy with VH, but I just don't like the guy. I agree that he should just have his little tribute tour with 3/4 Chickenfoot and praise Eddie and all that, but if you want to make fresh new music, just make fresh new music without having to stick the VH logo on it.

If there's anything in the vault, I imagine at some point it may come out. Hopefully we're all still alive and kicking when it does.

Al was for VH material. He was against family drama. Not a crazy position. Yes that mixing et al was done pre Wolf wedding.

Material is not an issue. They start and stop so many projects that really is not an issue. They could release an entire new record from Dave and brothers if they wanted to. No one needs to rush 5150, Ed himself had started going through it his last decade. They know mostly what is there already. Now historical live stuff is a bit scattered and gathering from all constituents has not occurred because they are dysfunctional children.
