Amsterdam Cover - Toronto '95 Inspired

Can't put the Axis down. Took my favorite parts of the Studio version and Toronto '95 version and put them together for this cover. Removed Ed's guitar from the Toronto performance and played along with that, which was fun! Usually I record to the original studio tracks, but clearly this feels more "live" than that.

You did a great job on that! Your tone is fantastic. What kind of amp did you use? Love that you're really digging the Axis. I drug my EBMM EVH out a couple of weekends ago and forgot how great these guitars are...well done!!

Finally, somebody covered at least a ton of parts from the live version of that song. Awesome playing as usual. I mean it sounds like fucking Ed basically. There are very few people I have heard pull that song off like that. It is not an easy song, and it is not an easy groove to get perfect. Not to mention the crazy shit going on during the solo. Nailed all of it, which is surprisingly to absolutely no one.

One of the best songs that Ed ever wrote, no matter which era.

I fucking hate you Jedi. You’re so fucking good I don’t think you know how good you are. How effortless and just how seamless your stuff is. Watching you play that reminded me of the video of Ed playing it from 1987 on the charvel in his studio. Just amazing man.

Um, wow. There's nailing a song and then there's nailing a song and making it look easy with a smile on your face. Kinda like that famous Dutch guitarist we know of.

That was pretty incredible. I put in my earbuds in and closed my eyes. Listen to it like that because I can't do guitar faces. They distract me, but it's better than looking looking like you're getting a root canal.

I'm just playing.

I don't think this can be topped as far as a VH cover. I heard l those Ed little nuances, etc.

And yeah this is absolutely one of my favorite VH songs regardless of era. Ed's riffs are crushing, Al's performance is super fun, and cheesy lyrics be damned, it's fun to sing along with. And that outro solo on the live version was just too good to not try to learn.

2023 EBMM Axis -> Dunlop EVH Wah -> Line 6 Helix Native for Flanger, amp modeling (5150 w/ a York Audio Impulse Response), and delays -> bussed out to the Eventide Micropitch plugin for the detune. I do have a Dual Pitch block set up in the Helix to sound virtually identical, but for the sake of accuracy went with the original Eventide detune.
