Mike can play bass. You don't play for that long and simply suck. He may not be Jaco but Eddie isn't Holdsworth either. Now I do think 5150 gave Ed more power, more ability to lay down demos with his sketches of boring bass lines. I do think he preferred Mike to emulate those. Not every song but some. Mike played them and did what he could but its not the playing from the club/early album day

There is proof of Mike contributing to 1984 though. There is that jam of them in the studio working on GGB. They are figuring parts out and Mike is playing with them. Starting, stopping, etc

Shit Eddie probably told Alex what to play at certain times because as time went on he was buying into his ego. The intro to AFU is an Eddie drum lick. I recall Alex or him saying that upon release of the album.

Not that its all indicative but I am playing bass in my band and we are doing four VH songs. Trying to learn it note for note and we are doing DTNA, Panama, Little Guitars and Top of the World. There is a style on all four of the songs. No different than if I was learning guitar songs...you can see or hear things. Its Mike.

I have not slept 8 hours straight since my 20s. I think that women live longer because most of them I have slept with hit the pillow and are out until an alarm wakes them 7-8 hours later or more.

I take a mild sleep med (prescription) called Trazodone, which works wonders for me. I was previously on Zopiclone, which is a great sleep aid but highly addictive. My family doc suggested Trazodone as an alternative as Zopiclone is a controlled substance. Once I made the switch, my sleeping issues have been gone the last 5 years.

I'm a mom with 3 kids 4 and under, so I too have forgotten what it feels like to be well-rested.

That said, it's so great to wake up at 5am with the baby and catch up on the latest breakdown of Mike's playing before the crazy train really starts rolling at my house. Good mental break 🤪

Magnesium. I had trouble sleeping FOREVER and someone told me to take 500mg of magnesium an hour before bed. I was about to try to get ambien, but somehow the magnesium is working. I can sleep 6hrs straight which I haven't done since I was like 30.

Yes. The funk element of the 70s definitely contributed to this...but it wasn't limited to that.

I think (and it's a bit of a cliche) but my favorite bass part in a chorus is Entwistle's melodic part on the bass during the chorus of WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN (during the "I'll tip my hat to..." part). It's so melodic and adds its own hook to the chorus.

It's the typical thing that happens with some rock "critics" whenever you have a solid player who doesn't like to show off too much. You get people saying "he couldn't really play."

Ringo is actually a very good drummer. He's not John Bonham or Neil Peart...but he really is quite tremendous. And because he was such a NON-show-off drummer, people love to claim he sucked.

    Same with Charlie Watts.

Sometimes, having a musician in your band who is determined not to show off is a huge asset.

I found Trazodone a few years ago when I asked my doctor for something that really works that I won't be climbing the walls if I don't take it every night. Voila, he prescribed Trazadone. Shit works. And totally non-habit-forming.

I sleep terribly (thus, me & Brett and others on here fighting with CarnalKnowledge last night).

Ringo is a very creative and solid drummer.
You realize it when you play his stuff as he played it. You discover all this aubtle stuff and how sometimes he played backward. He really crafted some great beats consistently

Ringo and Charlie Watts likely were great drummers. When they started playing Big Band was in. Those drummers were monsters Both guys likely knew all their rudiments and could play various classic jazz songs.

Its like Christopher Cross. People think of him Sailing and all that. Yacht Rock. Guy is a great guitar player. SRV's most famous guitar was originally owned by Christopher.
