To expect monogamy is foolish naive, imo. These guys are on the road for months at a time. Living in hotels. Rock stars marry for the most part, to have someone to come home to imo. Sure, there's love. So we think, but this is why you don't get married so quickly.

They used backing tracks on some keyboard songs for alot of tours... Someone here explained it...Maybe Jedi

These backing vox are not live and Sammy's voice is doubled at 3:20. It's actually pretty impressive they could stay on point like that live with 90's tech. I think AL is playing to the track with his headphones on and they just play to him.

I believe they only used the tracks for Mine all Mine and When It's Love. Someone here knows I'm sure...

I was at this show, and you could not tell at all there were any tracks. Those were the days before we over analyzed everything to death online and just got fucked up and enjoyed being in the moment.

I agree. I was watching an interview with Richie Sambora the other day and he said when VH split up it helped everyone else in the business, including Bon Blow Me. VH was the greatest American band at that time.

Jon Bon Jovi was apparently ultra faithful to his wife... but only within the borders of the state of New Jersey. Outside of his home state, all women were fair game.

They were using tracks at least as far back as the OU812 tour. You can see Al has headphones on for the keyboard songs, that's the really obvious tell. He's just playing to a click track that is paired up with the pre-recorded keyboards and BGVs. Later on it gets a lot more discrete with in-ear monitors, which I think Al started using around '95. He was an early adopter.

Everybody talks a lot of shit about tracks, but truth is basically everybody has had some accompaniment on tracks for the last 20-30 years. There's just a big difference between layering some extra keyboards or a harmony down and using tracks to cover inadequate playing.

FWIW, I don't think I've done a gig since 2020 that hasn't had some element of tracking to it, typically just extra keyboard parts or specific samples/fx with the occasional BGVs.

No, not that, though I don't recall ever explicitly saying 'air bassing' per se...just that there seemed to be added mix at the one show in '07.

But no, I'm thinkin' more along the lines of the emotions he and Valerie displayed...and how much of all the BS was in fact on Ed more than anyone else, and how famous folks are just as prone if not more so to codependent addiction abuse cycle infighting family horseshit as anyone else. Not that that's news...but there was also some quick reveals on WVH's part that got me thinking....esp a few lines about Mike, and the decision therein, and in being the second guy and so on....I still don't understand why they went the route of BTM tabloid to show all that emotion....why not 20/20, or Sixty Minutes, or whatever. TMZ style, I don't get that.

In seeing Ed in the presented vids, it did make me reconsider going to the Forum show again. I didn't move my tickets yet. Maybe I won't.

    Damn. I miss Van Halen.

This BTM stuff will make you change your decision to go to a show? How? None of it was about music.

That's really interesting. A close friend of mine was Rob Affuso's (Skid Row) drum tech in 95 and I believe they did some dates with Van Halen. I'm going to ask him if he has any insight to the in-ear monitor thing...
