Watch When Its Love from that Japan show from OU812. When the outro chorus starts. Eddie is no where near the mic. Yet his voice is transmitting 10 feet away. Mike's voice isn't "live" here either. Too perfect He is pitchy doing the ah ah ah ah at about 3:16. Its good but you can tell its live because its not perfect. The outro though is pitch perfect and isn't live. Sorry. In other words either they dubbed in the outro during the post production film or they used backing tracks. I go with the latter. Sounds like they recorded a backing track because its too good for this band.

07 08 was not Mikes voice.

Dave solo was done w the record chorus so Mike's voice. It was used in rehearsal but was not expected to use it live. Dave agreed to use it for chorus but did so late so not a seperate track like 07. It was originally used because they found it gave Dave tethers due to spots he HAD to hit. It worked at tightening him up but not pure. The live recording at Henson no tracks used. Those are not as tight.

It's painfully bad when the album version of Dave is singing parts of Panama and Dave doesn't sing there. He alludes to the fact that the guys in the band are doing a great job but it's pretty bad IMO. If I were to make an educated guess on why Wolfgang might not be singing, I would guess that there was too much at stake with the tour and the powers that be decided that it was to be done to make sure it was perfect. Clearly Wolfgang had the ability to do it as he was fine from 2012 on. It's really too bad Dave couldn't keep his vocals together. I saw every VH tour from 1986 up to 2012. I only skipped 2015 because Dave's voice was just too much for me to handle. It got really bad by 2015. He had decent moments here and there but it was pretty awful then. I don't know how the other three guys could take it. If I were Alex, Dave would have been almost non-existent in my in ears.

I’m going to guess that it was due to Wolfgang being nervous and having the presence of a rock during the 07 tour..

No, it’s just because VH had used triggered backing vocals on a bunch of songs on every tour since 1988. Simple as that. That’s just the way they did it.

A big 100M tour has a lot of constituents including insurance companies. Wolf did not have a say.

What I meant was his nervousness did not allow for that vocal performance to be on point. Not that he had any say in that decision.

This implies some of the BG vocals were live and others were backing tracks which begs the question 'what faff around like that?' Why pipe in vox only for certain aspects of a song? I can't see that being the case.

Well watch the video or hear it. Totally canned vocals at the outro. Again could be post video editing but I don't think VH would have gone in and rerecorded their vocals for that show. They did for Live without a Net but that was for sale. This live version sounds live. Eddie changes pitch here and there. Anyway who knows for sure but I wouldn't be surprised they didn't augment their backgrounds because they do get colds, miss notes, etc

Not only Mike but I hear album EVH and Dave on the backing vocals too. That characteristic blend of Mike & Ed or Mike, Ed, and Dave.

I always thought Alan "Fitz" Fitzgerald was the special guest any time EVH needed keyboards while he played guitar. Too bad they always hid Fitz in some outhouse in the background during those tours...

I was commenting on Van Hampshires link to Dave's solo 2020 clip there with KISS. Should have quoted.

The Beach Boys And Beatles 101 : The Bands The Music The History

Why Did Wolfgang Van Halen Totally Disrespect Sammy Hagar In His Behind The Music Documentary ?

The recently aired Behind The Music episode that features Wolfgang Van Halen may be the finest and most heart wrenching episode of the series ever made.

It shows how much Eddie Van Halen truly loved his son, and what a great father he was, even with all of his personal demons and addictions.

It shows the emotional toll it took on Wolfgang to deal with his father’s addictions, and being by his side every step of the way during the last days of his life.

It shows the amazing bond that his parents Valerie and Eddie had.

It shows how talented Wolfgang is as a songwriter and musician. How he’s paved his own musical path and has accomplished the very rare feat of becoming a relevant musical artist on his own even though Eddie Van Halen was his father.

Whether you’re a fan of Van Halen or Wolfgang himself the documentary can bring tears to your eyes with how emotionally touching it is as a story. In many ways it’s the perfect documentary of the love between a father and son.

With all of that being said one of the story lines that will affect the documentary negatively is the disrespect that Wolfgang showed to his father’s former bandmate Sammy Hagar . Not only did Wolf not acknowledge him by name, he condescendingly referred to Hagar as “that singer” when discussing the end of Van Halen’s infamous 2004 reunion tour.

    But why is that ?

In the past Wolfgang Van Halen has never shown any type of evidence or made any statements that he has any ill will towards Hagar. Actually recently it’s been David Lee Roth who has attacked him while Sammy Hagar has always complimentary, going out of his way to praise Wolfgang. And since (according to Hagar anyways,) his father and Sammy had made peace before Eddie passed away makes Wolfgang’s disrespect even more puzzling.

Maybe Wolfgang never got over how Sammy attacked Eddie in his book, (which was brutal btw,) but in recent years Hagar has done everything he could to apologize for that. There’s obviously more to the story since Alex Van Halen also wants absolutely NOTHING to do with Sammy either.

Even if Wolfgang has a problem with Sammy all he had to do was mention his name to avoid any controversy. Instead he called him “that singer” which puts unnecessary drama and a stain on an otherwise perfectly made documentary about his life.

That being said it’s an absolutely “must watch” !
