He doesn't have to use a Frankie. But, if he is going to the trouble of scratch-building an amp, why not just play a super-strat with an appropriate pickup (I think it was a '59?) through a proven set-up? Again, shortest distance. It just feels like he's going about it in reverse.

Dude is used to playing the neck of a JS - he's only played one guitar his whole professional life, pretty much. When tackling some difficult guitar parts he's not familiar with, I'm pretty sure he wants the comfort of the guitar he's used to.

I agree but to each his own creative decisions. Again, they're trying to replicate something that a Marshall amp was a big part of.

Satch is the bravest person on the planet. The number of people that will be sitting/standing in the crowd with their arms crossed, and mumbling to the person next to them about him playing an Ibanez or, if he dares to try and tap with his middle finger, it'll be meltdown city.

I don't like the setlist very much, but I was looking forward to taking a very open and "whatever" approach to listening to some old Van Hagar tunes, and one of my favorite guitar players of all time will be jamming them out. I know it won't be Van Halen. Van Halen is long gone and will never be coming back without Eddie. So this Hagar tour is, as the great Jules Winnfield said, "ain't the same fuckin' ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same fuckin' sport." And I'm fine with that.

The way I see it, if you’ve been paying to see Sam with Vic all these years then STFU and enjoy the upgrade. Satch is world class and he’ll be fine.

Never dropped a dime, and last saw him was with VH in 2004. I'd pay NOT to hear Vic play VH, though.

Agreed Scotty! But, in my humble opinion, this is more about Hagar.... otherwise, there would be CVH deep cuts for a true best of all worlds setlist.
Love Satch, but why have the Satch Boogie in there? Eagles Fly? Those have nothing to do with VH
I hope the Sammy fans enjoy the show, because this is clearly for them.

    Unhappy

Sammy had a great friendship with Toby. He gets a little emotional talking about him at the end of this.

Edward plays bass on the original studio version of Eagles Fly. So I would say it has something to do with VH.

Hey Brett, it is what it is. I'm the first to admit... I'm not a Sammy guy. I appreciate his talent and I actually loved his Rock n Roll Road Trip.
Maybe I'm being cynical, But there's just something about Sammy that rubs me wrong when it comes to his sincerity regarding VH. The Hagar set list furthers my cynical old man thoughts ha ha.
If I'm wrong ..... no worries, I'm the first guy to say, I misjudged. In the end, none of this matters, because Ed is not with us anymore.
If I'm a Hagar fan, this upcoming tour is a great time. So there it is ... I hope those folks ( hagar fans ) have the best summer ever!! I mean that !!
    I'll sit this one out...
As a guitar nerd, I'm keen to hear Satch's new amp tho' ha ha !!

Yup, good move. Probably wise to sit this one out and wait for the amazing 2025, 2026, 2029 and 2031 tours.

    Oh wait...
