I just watched the last show on YouTube and it had a finale vibe to me. Dave was considerably more focused and on point than when I saw them earlier in the tour. It might have just been because he was back "home," but he really tried. The band was incredible that night too. Was truly a beautiful send off show, and those of you who went were very fortunate to be there!

Solid vocal performance on this one.
It's really strange that it took WVH for this song to be played live. It's one of the best VH songs ever, and it's a mystery y the VH brothers didn't insist this song be played at every single VH concert!

On a technical note, is it me or did the guitar solo seemed rhythmically out of place? It didn't match the sheet genius of the studio version.

He probably had to relearn it. The last time he played it was probably when he recorded it in 1983. Maybe he just decided, "Ah fuck it, I don't remember the solo so I'll play whatever." LoL

Even the great Edward Van Halen is human. It could be a case of he can’t play it anymore or he just forgot. Kinda like why they didn’t play little guitars. I watched it literally hurt Edward in 2007-08. Even as superhuman as Edward was, Father Time catches up with us all.

I was listening to that Rosen interview with Al and I gotta say, I was really digging it. Al went into detail. Elementary schools, parents, instruments. How all the girls, even back when they were kids, thought Ed was so cute. Acknowledging that he (Al) wasn't so cute.

I'm not gonna slag Rosen, but he kept asking about Ed, I get it, though. He's isn't the greatest interviewer imo. Kept asking (can you spell that) Al to go into detail about Holland etc. Give the guy a break. He was a baby. Anyway.

I think this book is gonna be good.

They played it live on the “Diver Down” and “1984” tours.

Brook's probably talking about Little Guitars - that convo with Little Guitars and Drop Dead Legs got intertwined.

DDL was indeed only played in 2015.

Yup. Even Ed's timing started wavering in later tours. Especially in 2015 you can hear Al and Wolf save his ass pretty often, usually when ending a guitar solo or leading back into a riff that Ed's playing solo. Humanizes him for sure.

I don’t think Ed’s hearing was all that great either by that point.

I also had the feeling it would be the last time I'd see them when they came through Detroit onthat tour. But I thought they were just going to retire. They played so well, I thought they would just want to go out at the top of their game, I didn't think Ed would pass.

At the show I saw in 2015, during Dirty Movies, Ed played the wrong section of song at one point--I think he went back into a verse riff when everyone else went to the solo or bridge. They all laughed and seamlessly got to the right place. It's one of those things only the die-hards would've noticed, so a unique moment for us. lol
