VS, the UK had some of the best but we had Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Beach Boys, Doors, Eagles, Aerosmith and Van Halen just to name a few.

Elvis was a performer, and a great one, but he didn't write anything. You can't compare that to the Beatles.

Never played Montrose in the mid Atlantic either for some reason. Sammy solo got a lot more airplay.

I'm going to throw YES in here... They got the progressive

Maybe even Chicago... No other rock band was using a 4 piece horn section... That said, both bands were so unique I don't think they spawned anything... Old school Yes and Chicago were stand alone bands...

Baltimore FM was a Montrose free zone. One college station played them in the beginning.

    Default AVH Book?

I think it’s pretty interesting that their first album sold a million copies considering all you guys didn’t know who they were. And I didn’t really know who they were until I was older. When Sammy got into Van Halen I just assumed he was a guy who was a solo dude. I had no idea he had been in a band before.

But looking back now, there is a clear line from Montrose to Van Halen. There are a lot of similarities between the two bands. And like I said a lot of that probably came from Ted Templeman producing them similarly. He definitely used Montrose as a template.

    That was The Who.

Name ONE band who sounded like them. You can sound like Zep, Beatles, and Stones. Not The Who.

I have loved that first Montrose album for as long as I can remember.

Hold up I forgot about Pink Floyd... I mean I used to watch Pompeii every week. I don't know if I can trace that whack shit back to anything...

But remember, that album went platinum years later. It was in the cut out bins by the late 70’s.

I find it hard to believe it magically started selling a billion copies later on. It must’ve done fairly decently early on.

I think you guys are being a little unfair because it’s Sammy. The album seems like it was pretty well-respected from the beginning.

And no offense, Brook, but you didn’t even know who they were for years, so how do you know exactly what it sold in the beginning?

Brook will find any angle to minimize that album's impact.
