i keep running over how they could do it differently but i don't know. The traditionalist in me says the old (pre-playoff) system was fine, just needed some tweaking, but there is more drama I think with the playoffs. Doesn't help that this year's playoffs were tainted by the Bowman penalty and the Martinsville nonsense. I also wonder does the championship race need stages since there are no stage points - what would yesterday's race have looked like without those two stage cautions? And I think I was a little harsh on the racing anyway - there were a few passes for the lead and if Logano had had to fight a little bit more to get the lead in the first place, Blaney wouldn't have been so far behind him when he finally got around Larson and could give chase.

I agree Billy. No cautions without an actual need for a caution in the last three races. Let them race!

Took the ol’ Equinox for a couple of laps around the road course today. Drove the first lap one handed as I tried to record that lap - got some stunning shots of the dashboard, lol. Squealed the tires a bit in one of the corners but I did not have to go on the DVP. Second lap where I had both hands on the wheel was a better experience. They said we’d be going 55 but even when I was catching up to the pace car a couple of times I wasn’t doing that - maybe mid 40s. I guess one driver in the first group went up on the banking, which we weren’t supposed to do (they took maybe 20-25 cars at a time, the rest of us were outside the speedway in the back until it was our turn - the gal who was directing us told me that’s why my group was delayed in going). Even at the low speed it was awesome

nice to see Chase get the first flag of the season, even if it doesn't count in the standings. I thought it was a cool race, just don't know about the time of year. I hate seeing race car drivers and baseball players bundled up. Not sure when the regular racing program at Bowman Gray begins, but something like this should be run in the summer. Put the shootout back as part of speedweeks, and then somewhere during the season have a "legacy" race somewhere.

was just looking at the list - 11 drivers that I saw race in 1992 (the first season I really followed the sport) are in (not counting Jeff Gordon, who only raced the last race - but then he and Labonte joined the list the next season). That's not counting also owners and crew chiers and what not who were involved. What a cool few years that was, even with all the tragedy of '93.

i don't know what time the truck race ended, but as we were landing last night I could see the traffic exiting so it hadn't been long. And to see the Speedway all lit up as it was - just awesome. Pretty sure I saw Charlotte too as we were taking off from there.
