Default Rank Van Halen's Headlining Tours

Thought this might be fun based upon a conversation in the 1981 thread. Based upon bootlegs, videos, personal experience, rank Van Halen's tour as a headliner, which eliminates the Van Halen I tour (yes, I know, they headlined a few shows, but they were mainly an opening act). Not splitting this out between different legs, let's keep it simple.

1 - RHRN Tour - I just don't think I have ever seen or heard a tighter live act
2 - Fair Warning Tour - Never saw this tour in person, so, I have to go by the limited amount of bootlegs available, but they sounded incredible and DLR still had his screams
3 - 5150 Tour - off the wall energy and the camaraderie was a breath of fresh air
4 - FUCK Tour - still great, but when I saw them Sam spent a lot of time complaining about different people during song breakdowns, got damn annoying
5 - Van Halen II Tour - they sound great of the few quality bootlegs out there, so I stuck this here. Like the album, kinds of gets lost in the shuffle
6 - Diver Down Tour - Feel they were starting to have sloppy shows at this point more often than not, but still some all time great shows. Largo comes to mind. My first show, so it has a nostalgia factor for me as well
7 - 1984 Tour - DLR was sloppy live a lot on this tour
8 - OU812 Tour - Band is tight, but I don't like this album very much and they played a lot of it, so, for me this is down on the list
    9 - 2007 Reunion Tour - DLR was great
10 - Tokyo Dome Tour - Ed was great
11 - ADKOT Tour - Ed was back to being his old self
12 - Balance Tour - I know some people love this tour, but when I saw them, you could tell the wheels were coming off, it was a topic of conversation right after the show
    13 - VH3 Tour - sorry Gary
14 - Best of Both Worlds Tour - one of the worst rock shows I have ever seen

Polls were limited to ten, so I limited it to just headlining tours after studio albums, and I just dropped VH3 because, well, it was VH3, who cares.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

He is probably sending me a sternly worded PM saying "polls and lists are my turf mother-trucker!"

How about Monsters of Rock with Metallica and Dokken, etc? Was that a tour? That was the only time I saw them with Sammy and I didn't care for it.

    For me:
    Fair Warning Tour
Diver Down (Does that include the US Festival? I love that US Festival show - it's so Van Haleny)
    1984
    2007
    2012
    2015
    Monsters of Rock

Can't speak to the rest, although I'd imagine the 5150 tour was pretty good.

    Its true.

Now I will say this. In 2004, I saw two shows. I saw one pretty early on in the tour in New Jersey because my wife and I happened to be out there for a wedding, so we saw Van Halen at the same time. That show was a trainwreck. Then we saw them back later on in the tour at Staples Center and Ed was much better. Clearly being home probably got him under some control. So that show was light years better. He played more like himself.

2004, the year EVH turned into a drunken master samurai. There is footage of the show I saw on YT but it's best forgotten.

I can only rate what I saw, like many here

    1. Fair Warning, because Dave was still signing lyrics. What a show.
    2. 5150.
    3. Fuck.
    4. 1979 my first in a 2500 seat arena. Amazing.
    5. 1984. Roth cared less about lead singer, singing. His schtick just got tired. However, BY FAR, the best I’ve seen Mike, AL and especially Ed play. Truly the best, tightest, most incredible any guitarist could hope to play with. Poof they had taken over as the rulers of the rock world for decades to come.
    6. 2015. Not only was Ed once again on top of his game, got to take my 23 year old daughter and 15 year old son. Stayed in the same hotel (by pure chance) as the band in Concord. Daughter got a selfie with Ed despite warnings from security not to approach. Ed saw her EVH shoes and VH shirt. He made ONE exception out of about 100 people begging for him to acknowledge them. Came over and took a selfie with her. He had his faults, but clearly a huge, kind. heart. (Son was crushed; but loved the show.)
    7. 2007. Ed sober when I saw them and so awesome hearing those Dave era songs again despite his well documented vocal cord issues.
    8. 2004. Just sad. However the Vegas crowd still LOUDLY shouted “Eddie, Eddie, Eddie walking out of the arena through the Casino post show, 15,000 strong. Casino going gamblers had no clue why the mob was yelling nuts for him. Speaks volumes how beloved he was even at his worst.

Kills me I’ll never get to see the GOAT ever again. (Sorry for the editorial. Didn’t catch the easier check the box of studio album tours. (Sue me, I can rep myself given I am a lawyer. Although representing yourself in my profession is a clear indication you’re an idiot! )
