I am a little older than most here so I can remember it very well. I was driving back from my grandfather's funeral in TN to VA. I was listening to the radio and picked up a rock station and they proceeded to play the entire album before I drove out of range. I was very happy to hear the entire album because I really didn't like Jump (which had already been played to death on MTV and local radio). VH played in Hampton,VA about a month after the album was released so I caught them early on that tour.

The Van Halen 1984 tour were my first, and second concerts (I saw them in 1st in Philly, and later that year in Dallas). I was blown away by the performance of the band, still remember those shows to this day. I had heard Jump, Hot for Teacher and Panama before those shows, and I was all in, as a 15 year old kid. I was hooked.

I heard Starfleet that year too. A friend of mine had a hookup from a DJ that had the album, and we geeked out over Eddie's playing on that Project.

    Good times.

    That’s awesome.

I used to live a few miles from that Orem mall.

I had already seen the video for Jump and was just in awe of Eddie and Dave. I thought Eddie was the coolest guy on the planet. I didn't even know he was the greatest guitar player in the world, I didn't find that out till later. For my 14th birthday one of my friends bought me the album, I still have it. Everything I got that year was Van Halen, the album, a diver down cap, 1984 t-shirt, one of my friends made me a cassette of just Jump. I loved that song so much I'd listened to it everyday before school.

first cassette I bought with my own money. I got it cause lt seemed like everyone I knew had it. I knew the songs on the radio. I ended up liking Top Jimmy and DDL alot but when I finally listened to GGB and HOP it BLEW MY MIND. the guitar solo at the end of HOP is still one of my all time favorite musical moments. love that cd

I'll say it again, GGB and HOP just don't belong on that album. Both should have been on Diver Down instead of the covers.

You had a gazillion other songs that could have been on Diver Down, leave 1984 alone.

Let's Get Rockin', Babe Don't Leave Me Alone, Bullethead, Down in Flames, Eyes of the Night, list goes on and on.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!
