    Michael's a gentleman's gentleman.

I don't know Wolf, so I don't know his motivation: half of me wants to see the best in him - so I think it's extremely cool that he embraced Michael; the other half wonders if there's some discontent towards his Uncle and Dave, so he's thinking: 'I am glad that someone could turn something positive out of that shitshow.'

Either way, I see the situation as embarrassing: this is not about "closure;" this is not about "having a fun time;" this is about Edward Van Halen getting his just due.

Sorry, not sorry: that semi-outsiders put this together is embarrassing, in my view.

"when I heard Me Wise Magic on I-81 in 1996...I am thinking "what a fucking waste of time the last ten years were for Van Halen." - Dave's Dreidel

"It wasn't Ed's playing that inspired me, it was his spirit. The playing was merely a manifestation of that spirit." - Speedway

If you agree that there is no more Van Halen, and how could you not, well then they're all ex members of VH. Some of them want to do something (basically everyone except Al), and they're doing it. It seems normal to me. What was NOT normal was the permanent state of inaction that was prevailing during the last few years. I'm glad there will be some rockin in 2024. 40 year anniversary of 1984, their biggest record. 40 year anniversary of Jump.

Just because the band doesn't exist anymore doesn't mean that the former band members status suddenly resets amongst them, all as equal ex-member status.

And anyway that would only matter in terms of a Van Halen the band tribute, not an Ed tribute. Tho this may be billed as more of a VH thing, NDL was saying it's embarrassing for semi-outsiders to give EVH his due, and I agree, because Al and Dave and Wolf are the ones that were by his side the last 20 years, while he kept Sam and Mike out of his life until his deathbed. That's the definition of an outsider.

I'll never understand what Eddie's problem was with Mike. I'm sure money, drugs, and alcohol had a lot to do with it, but their relationship was weird. Mike is just a cool, easy-going, nice guy.

That didnít wright anything. Thatís why he was cut from a 25% partner to a 10% partner. Ed wouldnít have replaced him if he wrote.

Itís not a knock on Mike. Itís hard to write when you have Ed, Dave and Sam to compete with.

Mike had it made it that's why. If he had demons...they never showed. He parlayed his money into a very successful life. He was anointed. I believe in that stuff. Right man for the job. Mike probably had your traditional upbringing. Musician dad but I'm pretty sure Mike wasn't being fed cigarettes and alcohol as a kid for your nerves and no, it's not the "European way". By all accounts a successful long lasting marriage.

This gets us into money. Some people don't like orhers have any nice cars and mansions etc. The Van Halens...that was dysfunctional.

Mike had and made a ton of money. He was extremely wise with it. He had the cars and the big houses. He just didnít have a studio and a bad coke habit. Thatís helps too. Plus he invested it well.

Iím actually more disappointed that the band never utilized his talents more. He can play a trumpet, piano and bass. Not to mention his vocals.

Fuck it Iím posting a video.

Mike writing music for Van Halen is ridiculous. Everyone knows and expects the music to come from Eddie and whoever the singer is. I'm not saying that to you Fudd, but to Eddie. Its a weak argument. Who really thinks Eddie is going to take anything Mike brings to the table seriously? Ha ha, and of course the double standard here is that Alex didn't write music either, but he got a full share.

But all of that is beside the point. Sure, go ahead a lower his percentage. Fair enough. But treating him like crap, saying he bad things about his playing...all that stuff is the part that I'll never understand. Here's a guy that was loyal, was there from the beginning (yes I know about Mark Stone), was a true professional, was always happy to promote and wave the flag high for Van Halen, and Eddie still treated him like crap. Eddie criticized Dave for treating everyone like crap, and then he went off and did the same thing with Mike. He is a human being and stayed through thick and thin.

I love Eddie, but man this one relationship was so strange.

Ok but your missing the point that eventually everyone in the band soured on, he was getting publishing royalties for songs he didnít write. Ringo doesnít get royalties from Harrison for taxman.

They cut his percentages in 1988 anf he even votes in favor of it. He was ok with it. He knew the money was in touring. Mike knew he had it made and wasnít mad.

Heís well respected in the music community, his best friend is Sammy Hagar, and gets accolades all the time for his vocals and what he did.

Why are we defending him? Heís happy.
