    Default Mike Slamer

Literally the most underrated guitarist. A multi-decade career as a solo artist and hired-gun studio hotshot, most famous for writing and recording the majority of the solos for Warrant's first two albums. His solo stuff and work with City Boy will be too AOR for this forum.

Just so, so tasty. Always knows when to let loose and when to hold back. Melody for days and a ridiculous touch that kills other guitarists dead with just 3 notes. The epitome of 'class' and 'refinement'. The English equivalent of Dann Huff.

    Just a taster:

A catchy AOR track. Solo starts at 4m 05.

A more uptempo rocker. Solo starts at 2m 47 with some tapping but it's the end solo for me - his touch is sublime and nuances are next level, transforming what is a simple doubling of the vocal melody.

    Thumbs up

I've been a fan of Mike Slamer for many years. He's very under-rated.

Here are a few of my favorites that he played on.......

Some insane guitar playing in those clips. So may wonderful middle and outro solos. I know I've said it about a few tracks now but 'Find What We're Lookin' For' is just off the charts - from a great, catchy chorus to ear-bending solo to stellar outro that, like most of his playing, avoids the rock guitar cliches. I just can't get enough of his impossible-to-teach knack of complementing the most melodic of choruses.

Yes Find What We're Lookin' For is one of his best! It's shocking Mike Slamer isn't more famous. He has great riffs and solo's. He's one of my favorite guitar players. I don't like how bands like Warrant used him on their albums but he was uncredited. I wrote Mike Slamer on myspace years ago to tell him I was a big fan of his guitar playing and music. He wrote me back and said he appreciated it.

I don't know if you know but Mike was Beau Hill's go-to guy back in the day as well as Mutt Lange's - which makes sense as there's a strong resemblance between some of Slamer's rhythm work, particularly palm-muted arpeggios, and Leppard's. If I remember correctly, he was even thanked by Leppard in the liner notes of Pyromania and Hysteria.

He was Beau Hill's studio guy too? I bet he's one of the studio pros that played on Warrant's first album.
