    I would sell in a nanosecond. It's a headache I wouldn't want.

Selling catalogs also can be tax advantage. You can sell now and get hit w like a 20% tax. Basically you are seliing future revenues that would be taxed 40% plus depending on your state residence and accept some uncertainty in flows. Certainty and taxes are good reasons.
Personally Id rather preserve control but a strong case to sell and just not be bothered w it anymore

You look at a guy like Dee Snider and watch him get according to him "an obscene amount of money" for his catalog and it is hard to pass up.

"We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock" are "the two most licensed songs of the '80s" according to him.

He sold 12 million records, went flat broke, came back and got a fat paycheck.

If so many artists are selling, it's for a reason. It makes sense for them. It's a huge difference in taxes. If Springsteen sells the catalog for 500M, and it's taxed at 20%, he gets a net of 400M. If it's taxed at 40%, then he only gets 300M. 100M difference. Plus he gets to decide how the money is divided and avoids a family battle after he passes. So it's a no brainer.

Partnership is usually a ticket to court eventually. But honestly I always thought Daryl was 98% of the act. So whatever Oates got was gravy. Dude looks bad.

EV, isn't there a Behind The Music on these guys? I do give them credit for being hit makers back in the day. Their bandmates GE Smith and T Bone Wolk were freakin' great musicians!

Daryl was the lead singer, and the frontman, but in terms of songwriting, I think it was a real partnership. The number of hits they wrote in the 80s as a duet is unmatched. Their catalog must be worth a lot of money.

Daryl Hall's debut solo record is really good, in a totally different style. It has Robert Fripp on guitar and producing. Much more rock-oriented than Hall & Oates. Ed might have heard it and that's why he once asked Daryl if he wanted to join VH...

Not sure what if anything there was to gain about doing this interview. Maybe to set things straight or help promote an album.
I don’t know. In my life, I don’t air things out publicly but then again, I am not a public or famous person.
    Was just curious.
