If Blackmore were up against a lot of the other guys on this list I wouldíve picked him. But I am an AC/DC guy. I love those songs. And Angus is no slouch anyway. Some of the licks he plays with his feel are very difficult. He really has an amazing touch that I donít think people give him enough credit for because AC/DC songs are so straight forward. Plus, I donít think Iíve ever heard him fuck up live. Ever. He really is a machine up there.

I figured that was a mistake on your part. There isn't a Page solo that I like.

didn't think any of that came in to play - it's a Coulda list, lol.

It's not all about solos. You don't like any Led Zeppelin songs? Have you ever heard this?

I really want to go with PJ Harvey for every answer but.....

Randy Rhoads vs Zakk Wylde - Randy.

Jeff Beck vs Eric Johnson - Jeff Beck

Jimmy Page vs Pete Townsend - Jimmy Page

Steve Vai vs Joe Satriani - Steve Vai

Jimi Hendrix vs Tony Iommi - Tony Iommi

Yngwie Malmsteen vs Jake E Lee - Jake

Stevie Ray Vaughan vs Eric Clapton - SRV

Ritchie Blackmore vs Angus Young - Angus

For me it really came down to, whose music do you enjoy more? I think the only one I picked where I probably liked the music less than the other guy was Vai, just because I think he is an amazingly talented guy.

Like in the case of Hendrix. I donít hate Jimi. I like a lot of his music. But I just would rather listen to Black Sabbath. Those songs just speak to me more, so I went with Iommi.

Honestly, all these guys are great players, so I donít think thereís a wrong choice in any of them. Except for Zakk Wylde. Iím sorry, I just canít call him a great player. I just donít see itÖor more importantly, hear it.

The part of Brooks comment on Page's solos is what I highlighted. Page does have good chord structure, small riffs and picking like on Bron-Yr-Aur. He just loses me when he goes into a solo.

I agree. I semi disagree with Zakk. I saw the light a little bit not too long ago. He was better than I thought, but picking him over Randy? That makes no sense to me. So let's go with songs. I KNOW we like what we like, but damn... I couldn't go with Vai. The reason. The 2 Chickenfoot albums. Vai needs more than the DLR albums. I put him in the same category as Yngwie. He impresses the hell out of me, but there's no songs.

The best thing I can say about Zakk is his tone on his first couple Ozzy albums is good. I just donít like the guyís playing.

See, I donít agree with that at all. If someone doesnít write music that I enjoy, thatís a huge part of the equation for me. I wouldnít call Jimmy Page a great technical player ever. Heís fucking horrible actually. But itís the whole package.

Songwriting isnít part of being a great guitar player? Hell thatís one of the biggest thing that separates Ed from everyone.

Most of us are picking players that we enjoy listening to. I donít know what other way to choose other than by something that speaks to me.

I get that. It should just be about the player (their abilities) but we're human and it comes down to which band's music one prefers. I don't think it's wrong to say that AC/DC has the better more classic tunes. That's not a DP diss. You put on a AC/DC song and most will go YEAH. Not so much with DP IMO.
