Sorry, but just like Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, Steve Marriot, and all of the legendary PURE rock Ďní roll singers Dave doesnít need to apologize for his voice. Especially when he was in his prime and millions of wannabes were hurting their vocal chords mimicking his style. He brought James Brown to the hard rock world.

The critiques of Dave have gotten so far out into bozo land that they sometimes donít even deserve an answer. Hello Eddie Trunk.

Ozzy didnít even get this treatment when Dio replaced him in Sabbath. We all knew Dio was a stronger and more powerful singer, but damn it if the classic songs didnít lose something when Dio sang them.

    This is badassery right here.

    And so is this

Sure, you can rag on the guy now as a senior citizen, but heís not going to be remembered for his performances as a retired senior. No, he will always be remembered as the motherfuckiní rock Ďníí roll pimp that co-wrote some of the greatest rock music in history that NOBODY, no matter how much they try (and they have) , will ever emulate.

ďOh, this guy or that guy is a better singerĒ. Sure, tell your guy to get up there and belt those tunes. I love a good comedy.
    Iíll have the popcorn ready.

    Default Dave live Sep 2023

I donít know why you guys get all bummed out about Daveís singing. Heís been this way for a long time. Heís an old man, let it go.

Ed is gone. Van Halen is over. If he wants to play and do whatever, so what. Itís not embarrassing to him. And heís having fun.

I don't think anyone is disputing Dave's contributions so some of the best rock music ever written. It was pure magic and nobody can take that away from him. Its that he continues to put on an act like he can still deliver like its 1982--that's what people criticize him for. His deteriorating singing ability is only making the other stuff like his fashion sense become more pronounced. I guarantee you if he was singing better, no one would give a shit what he was wearing. But hey, its a free country and he can do whatever he wants. But people also have that same freedom to say what they want about his voice, outfits, gimmicks, etc.

Look, I think he's really goofy. But really, and this is just me, I just have zero interest in hearing Van Halen songs without Eddie playing them. I don't care what kind of show Dave delivers. Same goes for Sammy or anyone else.

I agree but I find it disingenuous to say he sounds good.

Yes. Typical Dave but we all have to say he sounds great because some new footage was released and we're all starved for ANY VH related content.

    Clockwork.

Dude, let's be honest. If Dave did like Sam and had Mike or whoever sing 50% of the songs (in some cases 50% of a song) and stay in low register because he can't hit the highs anymore, he'd still get killed by the same people.

Like I said in my post some people go waaaaaay overboard in their critiques.

    Default Dave live Sep 2023

Brook donít compare Dave to Sam. Sam is still 100 times better than Dave, even at 76. Come on.

What Sam has to sing is far more vocally challenging than anything Dave has to. Sam tuning down at 76 is no crime.

And VH was already tuned down with Dave from the beginning. And there are even some performances from the early 80s where theyíre down to D live. With Sammy, the band was in standard, 98% of the time. Applauding Dave for still singing in an original key, which was already tuned flat, is silly.

    This.

I was gonna say this whole big thing but whatever. Sam is tuned down but the history of his voice is still there. It's respectable still. We're never going "wtf was that"?

We're always "wtf is Dave doing. Why is he always changing this or that:? Yelp here yelp there. That's not nowhere near the original melody etc.

    Anyway....

    That's what I thought.

It's like those guys who were pretending Geddy Lee was still smokin' his vocals the last part of his career.

I wasn't even comparing, I said IF Dave did what Sam is doing he'd still get smoked.

And you guys proved the point I was making.

    Dave gets no quarter.
