Gibson Explorer "Destroyer" mods

I have a 2009 Explorer that I've had since new. Upgraded the pickups to some Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. It's a monster.

KS, she's killer! I'm trying to save up for a brand new Explorer, solid black with a mirror pickguard. Been checking out some older footage of Metallica lately and I love James' classic black beauty. Once I get that, I can get rid of the one I have now or just use it for parts.

Thanks LI!! I always wanted a white Explorer (the Scorpions fan in me) and was lucky to get this one. Funny that it started the same color as the pickguard and has creamed up over the years. I agree, a black Explorer would be awesome! I myself have always pictured JH with the Gibson V he used early on.

Double (triple for the 58’-59’ Vs) those estimates and you’d be bang on in that assumption.

That 68’ Firebird is probably 12-16k if all original and in mint condition.

I had an Explorer years ago and it was just so awkward to play. And if I remember right, it had annoying neck dive too. It just was not a fun guitar to play. Cool to look at, but man just not for me.

Brett, yeah the shape of the Explorer does take time to get used to. Same with the Flying V. I'm fine when I play them standing up but when I'm trying to learn new things I have to be sitting down and that's when I have trouble. It's one of the reasons why I love Fender Strats, comfortable to play standing or sitting!

Haha, I won't lie I did briefly think about it. Thankfully common sense did take over. I recall that when I got it in 2009 the sales guy said "That's a desert island guitar right there." He was right, I don't have any balance issues and it's comfortable for me, even sitting down. Not too heavy and even has an ebony board. As I said before, I just got lucky. This one is a lifer.

Like T5 mentioned in another thread, I also gotta deal with real-life issues so my guitar collecting is currently on hold. I really hope Scotty can sell his EVH Wolf, it really is a beautiful guitar.
