Default Mammoth WVH - Take a Bow

Really cool tune with lots of fun little details in it. Cool how it weaves between this pretty clean intro all the way to modern metal riffage.

This song’s solo also features the Frankenstein and *the* Marshall + an original touring cab. Tone is obviously super great, and the solo is fantastic too. Wolf displays a lot of feel and dynamics as it builds, throws in some obvious Eddie-isms, and then spins that into his own thing.

    Pretty cool tune.

I can imagine it inside a Foo's album.

    Thanks for sharing it, Jedi!

    Great info and description, too!

Love that it's the Frankenstrat and really love the solo, pure EVH style!

Yup, the tune sounds like a Foo Fighters tune, but with a lesser singer and drumming not as interesting.

He's a great musician and his solos are more interesting than other artists in the same genre.

The problems I have with him are two-fold:

    1) His lyrics are horrible, terribly bland, he needs to have someone else write the lyrics. Mitch Malloy writes better lyrics.

    2) He really seems to have little harmonic knowledge, his chord progressions all sound the same. That's something that his dad did so well. Stuff like the "Jump" pre-chorus. Special arrangement of "Beat It" to create a new section to solo over. Stuff like "Little Guitars." There's some cool harmonic movement in there.

In the end I think we'll have a similar situation to the John Lennon/Julian Lennon comparison. One in a billion talent is just that, one in a billion. Not two.

Wolf to me lacks any originality at all. Uber musician but as an artist doesn't have much to say and he simply doesn't write very memorable hooks or melody. What is Wolfs brand other than an unimaginative Foo Fighters ?
I think Wolf needs to pair with someone who is a better writer to bring out his potential but mid 30s is weird to still say potential

The thing of it is...there's really no one who IS original anymore these days. At least no one popular or even semi-popular. It's really been like this since it turned 2000 and more and more as time goes by. Same with the other arts like movies, cable television shows, clothing styles, etc. It's like we ran out of ideas (and somehow original singing voices).

If it wasn't for the non-cable TV shows we'd be fucked.

Does anyone else get ear fatigue with Wolfs music. I know that this is a common problem with modern rock in general and is largely due to modern production but Wolfs music hits my ears particularly hard. Nothing separates. It's just layers upon layers of sound. Even the songs that I like kind of wear me out. By Contrast, I've been listening to a lot of Ghost lately and despite being very intricate, the instruments and vocals stand out from one another much better. I'm not a musician so I'm wondering how much of this is production vs the actual songwriting.

Let's not forget old school record labels back in the day. Yes, they took advantage of artists but the labels were original as well. They each had their own identities. The guys in charge were characters themselves. Artists wanted to get signed by a particular label. The top down vibe trickled down to the creative side.

You don't have that today. It's corporate. It's McDonald's. It's sterile. It's digital. No flavors. Bland. Vanilla. Cookie cutter.

I like this one, overall. I think it features Wolf's best solo, so far.

I agree with the Foo Fighter comparison. With all due respect, that genre of music just has no feel to it. It's like a big generic rubber stamp.

    Yes, Foo Fighter-ish.

But not as good as some of the great FF songs like:

Dave Grohl wouldn't even call himself a great guitar player. But the dude knows how to write a good tune.

Yeah, you nailed it all there for sure. That style of hard rock from the late 1990's and 2000's does nothing for me. Just dont get it. I think it might be beneficial at some point to write collaborate with someone else, other than Dave Grohl. Focus on one thing and do it well.

The songs all give me "kick drum" fatigue. All I hear is kick and snare.
