You like what you like, but I donít think you give some of these bands enough credit. When The Cars, Blondie, Pretenders and The Police came along (in the Ď70s, mind you), they may have had shades in some instances of what came before, but they certainly werenít cliched. And itís been along time since I heard Get The Knack in its entirety but I canít imagine how itís much different than Pretenders other than itís a guy singing (about young girls no less - not cliched?) instead of a girl. Maybe some of the folks who are familiar with both can say. Just canít understand your outright negativity about good music. We all have bands we donít like, but you seem to have enough to fill the Oracle Coliseum!

I think a lot of people are dismissive of entire genres of music without ever even listening to them. A good song is a good song. Period.

Calling the Police cliche is laughably silly. Nobody that has EVER really listened to the Police would ever call them cliche. Nobody sounded like them. And they were brilliant musicians. Stewart Copeland pisses on most metal drummers. He makes them look stupid.

Marcin can like what he wants, but he does seem to get off shitting on everything he doesnít like constantly. And he admits he barely knows the music. Then why comment? When I shit on bands like Bon Jovi and Kiss, I know their music and Iíve listened to a majority of their albums. Iím coming from some decent knowledge of their work.

It was like that thrash/death metal one of these competitions earlier. And I literally knew none of those albums. Maybe I knew two or three. I didnít sit there and say this music sucks and I hate all these bands. I didnít even know their music well enough. Knowing one or two songs is hardly enough to judge. Most likely I wouldnít have liked most of it but, I wasnít going to comment on it because I just donít know enough of any of it. I just stayed out of it.

Exactly. I don't care much for country or rap, but I guarantee there are country songs and rap songs that I like.

To keep coming into these threads and say everything sucks, I barely know these bands, but they suck, it is tiring. Yeah I might make a comment that some of these bands I donít like and I wonít vote or something but I know the music. And Marcin is a real good dude. Heís been here forever and I know heís a funny guy, but he really does need to just lay off these threads if itís just gonna be to shit on them. I donít want him to feel ganged up on or piled on, but I understand how it gets people bummed out.

Marcin is definitely a good dude. I'm in favor of being tolerant towards all music. Except for Bon Jovi.

Oh, yeah, no problem with marcin himself, just don’t get the extreme negativity. Especially on the website for a band that was a radio staple next to these other bands

Hey, where to start? Thanks for kind words. As for my comments, I didn't want to come as a prick, so all I can say is: I am sorry guys. I never wanted to shit on these bands and I really rarely say that a certain band or album "sucks"do I? Well, what can I say? I just don't like the whole genre, style, etc. As for being "cliche", well these new wave bands are mostly the children of the 80s, so when I was saying "cliches of this period" I meant the production, gated reverb, electronic drums, synths, etc. Yes, I know I oversimplified, generalized, and exaggerated...much. Naturally, the Police is a good band with some great musicians but, for some reason, I just happen to not be a fan of...

The new wave style/genre/movement was also quite strong in Poland and - just like around the world, it is an ambiguous "umbrella term" covering a wide array of styles and approaches. And it was popular and played on the radio, that's why I was exposed to it and thus know a bit. Unlike thrash metal, which is not really mainstream music, so I stayed away from the "1984 thrash metal" competition. The reason - no knowledge at all. Well, if INXS and the Cure are new wave too then I kind of like some new wave bands I guess. Not that I am crazy about them but I won't change the station when I hear Suicide Blonde, New Sensation, or Lullaby (but I guess these songs were recorded after their new wave period?). It's all good. Will try to staye out of similar situations in the future. Peace and love. M.

I got dragged to see The Police at Painters Mill Music Fair outside Baltimore about 77. It was like totally different reggae rock. Never saw them again but like them.
