I'm sure Pat Smear wishes he could have met EVH under better circumstances.

I looked back after my above post and see now the Live Aid Philadelphia caption is most likely correct. There's no valid reason for me to have doubted the original photo caption. I was wrong to second guess.

These EVH with Clapton photo's are actually very iconic historical snapshots of great value. All things considered.

You remember when Edward passed away damn near every rock guitarist posted condolences. Except Eric Clapton. He said nothing. Funny that.

They made a dedication to E.C. on the back cover of the Starfleet E.P. Eric Clapton was asked about it in a guitar magazine interview and was quoted as saying he was offended by the dedication. He felt confused as to why they dedicated it to him. As though it was an insult. Unworthy of his stature.

But nonetheless you can see Edward met Eric Clapton in 1985 & they look happy smiling having a beer.

Edward only posted one comment after an iconic rock guitarist died.... Malcolm Young.

I'd have to look back to see if Jeff Beck posted condolences after Edward's passing but remember Jimmy Page definitely did as did Several others.

But Clapton couldn't have been bothered.

He surely must've known of his influence on EVH based upon several interview quotes & whatnot.

But Clapton I guess is too high & mighty above them all. We'll have to wait until JJ Cale dies to see if Clapton has enough class to post a respectful comment to pay tribute.

    Ugh.

    Clapton. Asshole. Awesome guitarist. Asshole.

Haha. Well that's just another example of how a simple harmless comment gets blown up out of proportion into something negative.

Pat Smear is one hell of a cool guy. He saw VH back in the club days. I think possibly playing on one of the shows maybe. With The Germs. Not sure. I'd have to google & surf around but think there's a photo of one of the LA clubs marquee sign that lists The Germs and VH on the same show.

Anyhoo-,all Eddie said was to ask if he could play the Mexican guitar. Is that racist. Is Pat Smear mexican. If so then how is calling someone mexican racist. If Edward said let me play the s#$cks guitar well then of course that would be different and definitely racist. But he specifically said mexican. If it was Rik Emmet or Randy Bachman Ed would've said let me play the Canadians guitar. See how that works. It's just referring to the person from the country they're from. If it was Michael Schenker Ed would've said let me play the Germans guitar. Or if it was Angus or Malcolm Young Ed would've said let me play the Australian guitar.

Or if it was Clapton Ed would've said let me play the limey assholes guitar.

    Pat Smear isn’t Mexican.

Native American and black on mom’s side, and white and Jewish on the other.

It was a racist comment from a drunk. Ed thought he was being funny, but he was clearly a drunk idiot in that instance. There’s nothing to defend. It was just stupid.

    Ok. Well I tried.

Guess I should've double checked before posting. I suppose there's no valid conclusion other than to accept the fact that Edward was being an ignorant asshole in that one particular incident.

Funny that though. Ed being of mixed race himself. You'd think he'd be above that kind of cheap lousy redneck white trash crap. Ugh.

This episode is part of the personal "worst of" of Eddie, along with some of the interviews about Mike. The kind of things I want to forget.

Listen to some of the “Metal Fatigue” album by Holdsworth, you’ll hear it. “Dirty Movies” is a good example of it.

I would say the Holdsworth stuff isn’t really apparent until after Women And Children First like Brook said. Definitely on 1984 a lot of stuff sounds like Holdsworth to me.

BB, hell yeah! Metal Fatigue is stellar. It's no wonder why EVH loved Allan Holdsworth. I remember reading that they wanted to collaborate but I never heard if anything ever happened.
