This Road Rules spot, obviously all the early 80s contest stuff with Dave, I think during the Balance days the first video played in 1995 was Don't Tell Me, they did Jon Stewarts old show, shit the old hour long Van Halen 3 preview with Matt Pinfield. I always doubted that MTV forced them to show up with Dave. I think Ray Daniels pushed that in hopes that would get them to stay with Dave when they saw the reaction. Daniels would have made a lot more money managing them with Dave than with Cherone.

Yeah, just look at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction. Granted, Ed was in rehab but Alex and Dave could have shown if they wanted to.

I don't know if that is entirely true. Eddie made a comment back in the 90's after the whole MTV awards thing with Dave and said that he didn't want to be there at all. He made some comment about Wolfgang's first day of school and originally MTV wanted just him and Dave to do it. Eddie said he forced the other guys to come along and mentioned that when MTV asked you to do something, you pretty much did it.

He may not have wanted to miss wolfgang's first day of school but it was probably more uncomfortable knowing that Dave was NOT going to be the guy singing in VH. Eddie looked extremely uncomfortable in that footage.

Well maybe not "forced," but definitely "coerced." Coerced to the point of absolutely not wanting to do it but doing it anyways, likely because they would've made things very unpleasant for the band in trying to promote their new era/singer/album if they didn't.

I dont know man... That was the same day as WVH's first day of school. I would bet Ed would of been home taken his only son to if he had the option. Regardless of what ended up happening, the record company would of seen huge $$$ signs with CVH on the stage and made him go.
