Default Nikki Haley Throws Her Hat Into The Ring

As a resident of SC, I wonder about Nikki Haley's desirability/electability to people outside of my immediate area:

    ***

I see her as a competent female version of Marco Rubio, in that while she is qualified, her (past) talking points are stale.

I don't mind her but to be honest, unsure of anything that she stands for. I think your Marco Rubio comment could be true. Take a guy like Rand Paul. I knkow what he stands for or what he kind of champions. He is an isolationist and hates deficiit spending. Kind of a like a diet version of his dad. I am trying to rack my brain to think of anything of her and I simply can recall she I think was UN Secretary and I belive is Indian-American. Reviewing the article I got at least one of those right.

IMO I think some of these people run for office because its kind of a proving ground to be considered for VP. You go out and stump. Give speechs, ideas, etc so that somebody notices her. Looking at the names of potential people I really don't see anybody who can challenge Trump or DeSantis. Then again Jeb Bush was the perennial favorite this time 2014.

Most of them run to be VP contenders like you said. The fact that they get to keep the money they raise is another. I find it interesting that she called Trump first before this got out. She could be running as an attack dog against other candidates, who knows?

I appreciate everyone's feedback; I hadn't thought of her move as one which might make her a contender for VP. It makes sense.

I think she'd be a good running mate, based upon her experience and her appeal as a female candidate. I do not, however, have any interest in her being our President: I don't know that she's a neocon, but she does come across as hawkish, and moderate neocons usually leverage social positions - and little else - as a way to curry favor with their base.

I wouldn't be shocked if she's in there mainly as a spoiler to split the non Trump vote. Apparently, he encouraged her to run. Makes sense that he wants to run against as many people as possible.

If she still supports Trump I've lost all respect for her.

Edit: I am sure that really bothers her.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Her former political director was just on Tucker and he believes she’s burnishing her VP credentials. Outlined a few issues on her record too.

She is definitely doing it to try and become someone's running mate, not that she thinks she can win, unless she is truly delusional.

Yeah I think its totally a VP move. For one she is somewhat still tied to Trump. She basically asked for permission or at least told him she was thinking of running. However she is now going against Trump. So she can appeal to Trump and his people for being respecfull unlike DeSatan. However she also is running against Trump so she could be used as a VP to somebody other than Trump. She kind of is like Hungary. Helping Ukraine but still doesn't want to piss off Russia too much. Not saying anybody is Russia. Simply has both feet in the water.

She is Kamala Harris with a brain. Checks some boxes but really has never distinguished herself and she has been in the game for awhile. She can be used for political favor. I don't dislike her. Just don't know much about anything she stands for. She always is in the background.

All that said she has far more of a chance than Pence or Cheney.

She seems sane and smart. Replying on behalf of the world, that's an improvement over what you got.

Oh I don't disagree. She is intelligent and smart. However to be honest she does help the optics with the GOP and has for years. Woman and a minority allows her to get more coverage at times than if she was a 50 year old white male in the GOP. That guy would get lost wth all the other 50 year old white males. Not saying she isn't deserving but the GOP has used her at times to go "see we love women and minorities....."

She definitely isn't a Palin or Harris. She has a brain. I dont dislike her at all.

There is something to that, and honestly I'm ok with it. I don't think, let's call it affirmative action for politics, is a problem when you're spotlighting good candidates

Oh I don't have a problem doing it so people can get recognized. Especially if you have a known weak point or maybe a perception about you failing at something. I truly never bought into the idea that GOP hates women. They simply don't like women who are not conservative or appear to be conservative. Just like the Democrats don't embrace men who may appear to be more common. It is about marketing at the end of the day. Are you good for the outward reach for the party.

The only issue I ever have is if you do something like Kamala Harris or even the last Supreme Court justice. Eliminating a group of people because they don't fit the profile of what you want to hire. I don't care how one believes that it is requried, its always sexist or racist to do so,
