I think a trait Edward and Dave shared is they often do their best work pissed. So Ed's guitar playing that tour, Dave's over the top stage EEAS show - they were both pissed. Oddly that may have helped them create such great art despite wanting to kill each other in the creative process.

All the fights with DLR over the music obviously took its toll on him and he was very "happy" to be out on tour for 5150. Not trying to get into a long term argument about which version was better, just that I think in retrospect you can really tell how happy Ed was on the 5150 tour.

As I said earlier, imagine “Live without a net” on CD in surround sound. I don’t think they owe us anything, personally, but that would be a ultimate bonus.
Wait...are you serious? Are you saying that someone from the inside recently said Alex won't be releasing anything posthumous nor wants to do a tribute show/tour?

Thinking about it all those years later, on paper, the setlist should never have worked. Ignoring a huge part of their catalog. But the way they played those songs, they made it work. The guitar duels on OWTR, we'd never heard anything like that from Ed. Extended intro to BOBW, 5150, etc. A lot of it was new and fresh and it worked really well.

Like an old hot rod firing on all cylinders in perfect timing. Eddie really had total command and made it look so easy on LWAN.

We're lucky that they released the New Haven show during the 5150 tour when they were all fresh and happy to be back on the road. I wouldn't doubt if other shows were filmed from that time but the vaults still won't spill their secrets!

The 5150 tour benefits from the existence of the LWAN video. It's immortalized for eternity that way.

Conversely, all the other tours suffer from the lack of a similar visual document. Largo 82 might be an exception, kind of.

LD, we're even more lucky that Largo 82 was leaked since I doubt the band would have released it officially. Same with the Us Festival. I've heard rumors that Steve Wozniak wanted to release VH's preformance but the band said no because of how drunk and sloppy they were. It still leaked and remains one of the best pro-shot footage of CVH to this day.

I've got LWAN on VHS and DVD. Would love to find it on LaserDisc in the wild.

I bought the US Festival show at a rock bootleg show over 20 years ago. It is Roth who is high/drunk, the rest of the band is fine. Roth forgets lyrics to many songs on it. Noel Monk wrote about it in his book, he was horrified! There are many other shows with Roth that are much better.

The US Festival show is embarrassing as a historical record of CVH.

I think the Largo '82 might be the best full-length video of them in concert.

For just how fucking awesome they were right out of the gate, the recorded shows opening for Sabbath in the UK are unbelievable, wish they were video.
