And that's exactly what this is: terrorism.

That's why I am surprised that more people haven't taken notice to this event - especially locally.

Obviously I don't know what happened, but considering the possible rumors of right-wing, domestic terrorism, I think it's, perhaps, a good thing there is some caution in the reporting on this. Also, nobody died and people weren't attacked and, let's face it, the outages weren't in large communities or coastal communities were most of the media reside.

No deaths, not a whole lot of people affected, no known motive, kind of adds up to people not talking about it.

Once we do know the motive, that may make a difference.

You seem upset. I didn't make up the rumors. They are also the rumors that have been hinted around in this thread before I brought it up.

As this happened, Emily Rainey, who resigned from the Army after an investigation into her participation on January 6th, posted on social media that the power was out in the county and, she wrote, "I know why." Then she posted a picture of the Sunrise Theater where a drag show had been happening that was no unable to continue. There were weeks of protests leading up to this performance that night.

The police questioned her and said she didn't know anything.

Those are the right wing domestic terrorism rumors and I was careful to label them as such and my whole point in doing so was saying that I think we are doing a good job of not leaping to conclusions.

I think it is okay to discuss rumors without leaping to conclusions, especially in the context of saying it is good we aren't leaping to conclusions.

This just seems silly. She basically said that she was just saying that this was karma for the drag show and that is why she posted what she posted, and not because she had actual knowledge of the attack, but recognizing society hasn't jumped on the theory as fact seems like a good thing?

I deeply apologize. My upset wasn't at you specifically, it was at the rumors.

I know the people in NC, within which is a tiny contingent of folks who sit in their rocking chairs, and come up with...stuff.

Looking at the local news feeds, this stuff has been overplayed. If it continues, be sure that progressive cities like Charlotte & Raleigh will go in the other direction to assure the rest of the Country that 'not all of NC thinks this way.'

The Charlotte area is one within which are a diversity of religious/ethnic/political beliefs; as a result, to garner viewership/ad clicks, local news outlets sometimes cover stories which highlight the diversity of thought that's here. This sometimes feeds suspicion and division between people - something I don't want to see.

One person has now been found dead in an unheated house.

But you are correct in that the media is showing some restraint in not jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers. I think it is just such an unusual event that they are caught without a pre formed opinion.
