I had a Gremlin. My Mom bought it new in '77. It went through her then my 3 sisters before it got to me in '89. I got it with 120,000 miles on it. 3-speed manual. No power steering. No power brakes. No AC. It had been in 3 accidents. You could literally remove the key from the ignition while driving and it still ran. I spray painted a VH logo on it because if I was going to drive that POS, I was going to make it mine. The day I was supposed to take it to the junkyard for $200 it failed to start for the first time. My friends from high school still joke with me about "The Grem" or "Van Gremlin". I miss it.

Stock, true. They did have a surprisingly large engine compartment though where "creativity" had permission to play. I've seen a v-8 stuffed in those things.

SB, that's why my friend David loves his Fiero. It's a great commuter car that gets him where he wants to go. It's definitely not a hot rod but it still looks cool. The only thing I would change is the color. I've never been a fan of white vehicles. His car would look badass in black with better rims but he's set in his ways.

I’ve seen Fiero’s used for kit cars throughout the years but had no idea that Pontiac actually sold one new through dealers as a Ferrari 308 knockoff—The Pontiac Fiero Mera. Of course they were sued by Ferrari…idiots!

The company that did the conversion was called Corporate Concepts, Ltd.

Really? Whoa! Brazilian VW never produced anything from Audi until 1999.

On the other hand, we had the C2 platform produced here as the 03-door and 05-door Passat with a 1.6L (63 kW; 84 hp) carbureted engine.
Something like the Audi 100/200/5000 Avant model.

From 1974 to 1988, these cars were relatively successful here. The engine was updated for the TS and GTS Pointer models (1.8L ; 92 hp).

Ok - I'll give you a pass on the Tesla hate - but I'm not putting up with dumping on a Fiero :

The 4cyl were lean - but a decent fuel efficient / commuter car.

The 1988 Fiero GT, specifically w/ t-tops and a 5spd...those things rocked hard. And (for their time) were impressive. Regrettably, the damage had been done - and they killed it.

Man, if I won the lottery, I'd have a collection of classic 80's cars - and the 88 Fiero GT, t-top w/ 5 spd in burgundy would be at the top of my list.

Yeah, my wife’s first car was a 1978 Audi Fox, which was basically a VW Fox with like a nicer interior and stuff. It was the entry-level Audi. Of course my wife got this car when it was like 11 years old so it was pretty beat up. Obviously, my mom’s was brand new and was the top of the line Audi at the time. I tried to find a dark green one online, but I can’t. But this is what they looked like.

It’s so funny to see it now because it looks unbelievably dated, but at the time it was like cutting edge design. Lol.

There’s a few little differences that I remember from my mom’s. My mom’s definitely had a passenger mirror. And I do remember she had some orange reflectors on the front quarter panels that this picture doesn’t have either.

I remember back in the street racing days of 1990-1991 (I had an old Firebird), there would be a few Fiero guys who would stick together at the end of the parking lot and would get teased mercilessly. Ah, the good ol' days.

EDIT: Here's my old Firebird...listened to a lot of VH thru the Alpine stereo:

Not sure I have ever sat in a car I like less than the Fiero.

Agree. My buddy had one. Being a passenger was unnerving. Death trap vibes on the freeway and twisty roads.

This photo reminds me of the 2nd VW Passat, which was only launched in Brazil in 1984 and closed in 2006. A long-lived car here. 1.8 L and 2.0 L engines. It was preferred by many taxi drivers and the public service in all Brazilian spheres. The funny thing is, as I said/wrote before, the C2 platform had the 1ts Passat generation produced until 1988. So, how is that possible, you may ask. That's simple: Volkswagen do Brasil has decided to keep producing the 1st Passat with the old body and to produce the new Passat here using another name, Santana (platform D). As I said, the car lived a long time, proving once again the brand's success here.

And BTW, my father had like 04 or 05 VW Fusca (or Vocho or Beetle). The man simply loved that model of car. In between, he had a VW Passat Variant (04-cylinder boxer rear engine with 50 hp) and a VW Brasília (intermediate model, hatch, with boxer rear engine, more powerful - 56 hp). This last model, the VW Brasília, was my 1st car. What a brave auto - it never let me down.
